Mocha, Myths, And MagicA Divine Gathering By: Zachary Schrage
After a Millenia of fierce battles and conflict, Heaven and Hell agrees on a temporary cease-fire. Members of each realm are invited to a party where they will indulge in glee and merriment with tea and coffee and delectable sweets!
This is a self-directed project, a deck of 54 poker playing cards. This is both a passion project while also being my Farmingdale State College Senior Thesis Project. Each face card represents a class of characters. Jacks are Warriors, Queens are Sorcerers and Magicians, Kings are Champions, Ace cards are Homunculi, and Jokers are Demon and Angel Children.

Character Design
Apollyon was once a powerful angel who was respected by all of Heaven. He succumbed to temptation and lost his wings and was banished out of Heaven for eternity. He is neither friend or ally to the Demon realm, however he is often used as a pawn. They say he has lost his mind and can no longer reason as he thrashes in search for...coffee.
Parisa is a master of the lance. Her swift speed and agility lets her cut down her enemies in a flash. She enjoys physical activities in her own time and she is also the captain of the Divine Rugby Team. Her favorite food to pair with coffee is a golden toasted croissant with a bead of chocolate on top.
Azrael serves in the Heavenly Realm’s most prestigious army, a group of the most talented and intelligent soldiers. Rumor has it he knows an infinite number of special combat techniques which makes him completely unpredictable in combat. He is a passionate and outgoing personality that easily raises the morale wherever he is. He enjoys the simple things like toast with butter in the morning and a cup of hot, drip coffee.
Lilith is a playful one. She is the guardian of the underworld prison chambers. Prisoners fear her for the malicious games she plays on them. It is truly eternal punishment. Despite her wicked personality, she likes things fancy. She can be seen sipping on her honey tea and eating delicious biscuits and fruits out of reach of the prisoners below her. They suffer as they beg for a drop of water to quench their dry mouth.
Mazikeen is the dark sorceress captain of the Demon kingdom. Her black magic melts her opponents in an instant. It is said that she can decipher the laws of ancient dark magic, which is the powerful forgotten magic of the previous demon king realm. She enjoys leisure on her days off partaking in matcha brewing ceremonies and eating sweets.
Uriel is a hard-working student who believes in study and discipline over talent. He is an inventor of many new and powerful spells. His talents are not just in magic but used in other disciplines as well, like brewing tea. He is always spending his free time labbing up a new method for tea brewing.
Seraphina is a high ranking mage in Heaven’s court. She is a master of light magic and began as a prodigy at a young age. Mages inside Heaven’s court must wear special eye covers because their light magic is so bright it would blind them in an instant. Seraphina enjoys reading and studying new spells in her own time with a cup of coffee.
Fenrir is a cunning one. His magic may be weaker than that of Mazikeen, but he is intelligent and an efficient one. He uses magic in a way that doesn't use a lot of mana. He often uses tricks to position his opponents into the grasp of his plans which leads to their unfortunate demise. He enjoys a sweet latte while he ponders about new methods for trapping enemies.
Amon is the most powerful warrior from Hell. They say he has no heart or soul. He is ruthless and unforgiving as he does anything for victory even sacrificing his own army. He doesn’t care for coffee or tea unless it can be used to gain an upper hand over his opponents.
Engelbert is the champion of Heaven. He shines radiantly and the dark skies of hell open up when he arrives. It is a divine sight indeed. The aura he exerts can bring half a demon army to its knees in an instant. He loves coffee and tea and a feast fit for a king.
Ishtar is the finest swordsman of Heaven. Don’t let her gentle personality fool you for she has slain more demons than all of Heaven’s warriors. Ishtar enjoys tea parties and loves to enjoy quality time with her friends.
Niya is a lover of cute things. She is obsessed with collecting little figurines and keychains of her favorite characters in the stories she reads. She’s introverted and shy and usually works alone. She always keeps a charm of a character named Kiku at her side. She claims it gives her immense power. Don’t mistake her shyness as weakness, a single slash from her dark sword has the power of a black hole. Her favorite drink is a Taro bubble tea.
Anthonii is a chill and proud angel always looking to have a good time. He is secretly friends with a demon named Kameel. They often fight in front of their superiors to hide their friendship. He has a huge sweet tooth and often puts too much sugar into his coffee.
Kameel is a trouble maker. She seeks an adventure so she is always escaping from her room to play with her angel friend, Anthonii. They are truly besties. She loves bubble tea and macaroons. She is unable to wield a real weapon so she carries around her wooden sword.
