Lilac Scribbles

Hello and Welcome back to Scribbles. Glad you're here! It had been so long since we were able to get outside. FINALLY....

Parents please be reminded: when the "real feel" temperature is BELOW 20°, we do NOT go out!

Science

We began a study of mammals. The children learned: mammals breathe air, are born alive, feed their babies milk, take care of their babies, have hair or fur, are vertebrates. They were reminded we are mammals. The mammal we focused on is the horse.

The children learned some facts regarding horses. One in particular - horse eyes are the largest of any land mammal. We also discussed the life cycle of a horse (birth - foal - next colt (male) or filly (female) then adult horse. We also discussed our (human) life cycle.

Geography

We are visiting a new continent - Europe, to coincide with the Olympics. To date the children have learned: Europe is the second smallest continent with Australia being the smallest; has 50 countries; Italy (where the Olympic games are being played) looks like a tall, high heeled boot on the map; largest country in Europe is Russia which also spans across Asia; pizza, ice cream, lasagna and the piano were invented in Europe.

We presented the flag of Italy. The colors represent courage, faith and love.

The majority of the class overwhelmingly predicted the groundhog would see his shadow. They were right. Ughhh, six more weeks of winter!

Here's our poem for the month of February. Love is a circle round and round. Love goes up and Love comes down. Love is on the inside trying to get out. Love is whirling and twirling about! Happy Valentine's Day!
