This week in Year 4, we have been diving into an exciting new History topic, exploring the big question: Why did the Romans invade and settle in Britain?
On Monday, the children travelled back to the very beginning of Rome, discovering the story of Romulus and Remus. The children were fascinated by this tale and enjoyed discussing how myths and stories can shape what we know about the past.
As the week went on, we investigated the key reasons behind the Roman invasion of Britain, thinking carefully about what made Britain so valuable to the Romans. We also learnt about the powerful story of Queen Boudicca and her rebellion, which sparked great discussions about courage, leadership and resistance.
Using their knowledge about Roman gods from our History lessons, the children have started to write up their own myths in English!
In PE, we were lucky to enjoy another sunny session outdoors. The children focused on developing their handball skills, particularly how to attack opponents effectively while ensuring safe contact during the game.
Our Year 3/4 Oracy assembly this week was all about friendships.
During STEM club with the NUFC Foundation, the children learnt about Newcastle United Sound Shirts and how they help deaf fans who go to games. We took this inspiration to design our very own tech shirts, in order to help people enjoy themselves and feel included.
