OSU defeated Ole Miss in a thrilling national semifinal match before handing Virginia a 4-1 defeat in the final. Anchoring the squad were All-Americans Preston Stout and Ethan Fang. After the season, the two led Team USA to victory at the Walker Cup, with Fang also becoming the first Cowboy golfer since 1967 to win the British Amateur.
DEPARTMENT-WIDE SUCCESS
SECTION 2-NO SHIRTY-1
Oklahoma State football fans ignited a national craze by taking off their shirts and waving them over their heads during a football game against Houston on October 11. Fans from stadiums from coast to coast mimicked the action in the coming weeks.
It started when Callista Bradford dared her brother, Trent Eaton, to go to an empty section 231, take his shirt off and wave it over his head. He did so, and many others followed, sparking one of the national trends of the college football season.
AN OKLAHOMA STATE LEGEND
After 21-plus years as head coach at his alma mater, Mike Gundy coached his final game at Oklahoma State. He was a two-time National Coach of the Year, a three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and perhaps the most influential figure in the history of the program. He led OSU to 18 consecutive winning seasons and is sixth in college football history with 12 wins in bowl games.
THE ERIC MORRIS ERA BEGINS
After guiding North Texas to an 11-1 record and a No. 1 national ranking in scoring offense and total offense, Eric Morris was named head coach at Oklahoma State. An overflow standing-room-only crowd of former players, fans and dignitaries packed into the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center to roll out the Orange Carpet for the new leader of Cowboy Football.
