Schedule for AI Faculty Development Workshops
These workshops are facilitated by guest subject matter experts in the field of generative AI for university instruction and integration. Days of workshops vary, but the time is 12:00-1:00pm on all days. Some workshops may include faculty presenters from WSSU or guest facilitators from generative AI vendors. This series is funded by a grant from the Adobe Foundation.

Dr. Justin Hodgson is an award-winning educator and digital transformation leader at Indiana University. He currently serves as the Strategic Director for Generative AI Faculty Initiatives and as Director for the Digital Gardener faculty development programs in IU’s UITS Learning technologies division. Dr. Hodgson is also an Associate Professor of Digital Rhetoric in the Department of English at the IU Bloomington campus and author of Post-Digital Rhetoric and the New Aesthetic. Outside of IU, Dr. Hodgson is well known for creating JUMP+ (the Journal for Undergraduate Multimedia Projects), for serving as the primary host of the popular Adobe Express + Firefly global webinar series, and for his work as a higher education consultant specializing in digital innovation and faculty development.

Dr. Darryl Scriven is a graduate of both Florida A&M University and Purdue University with degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Morocco and Tunisia, and has taught at Wilberforce University, Southern University in Baton Rouge, Tuskegee University, Florida A&M University. Dr. Scriven was also a Dean at Winston-Salem State University and Clarkson University. Currently, he is Interim Executive Director of the Cyber Policy Institute at Florida A&M University. He is a novelist, documentarian, entrepreneur, and co-founder of the African American Family Enrichment Institute in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Scriven is the author of A Dealer of Old Clothes: Philosophical Conversations with David Walker, co-editor of Insurrectionist Ethics: Radical Perspectives on Social Justice, and author of the forthcoming Black College Blueprint: The Next Frontier for HBCUs.

“Code Meets Culture: Teaching Responsible AI in the Humanities”- Thursday, November 13, 2025- 12-1pm- Dr. Sheneese Thompson- Associate Professor of English/Afro-American Studies, Howard University
Dr. Sheneese Thompson is an experienced Lead Professor with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. She is skilled in many areas such as student development, creative problem solving, and ways to increase student success. An Adobe Influencer in digital innovations and pedagogy, Dr. Thompson often speaks nationally on ways to integrate digital tools into instruction. Her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in African-American/Black Studies from The Ohio State University, and she is currently serving as an Associate Professor of English/Afro Studies at Howard University.

Featured Guest Speakers for the Panel Discussion
Heather McCullough, Ph.D., is the Senior Director of Academic Programs for the University of North Carolina System, where she leads strategy and collaboration across 17 institutions. Prior to this role, Dr. McCullough served as the Director of Learning and Technology working to advance digital learning, instructional innovation, and student success across the campuses in the UNC system. With over 20 years of experience in higher education, she has directed large-scale initiatives in online learning, faculty development, and open education. Heather has served in academic technology, library, and faculty affairs roles and is recognized for building cross-functional partnerships that drive institutional and system-level transformation. She has served on numerous boards, including recently the UPCEA Board of Directors and regularly contributes to national conversations on the future of digital learning and academic strategy.
Dr. Stevie L. Lawrence, II serves as the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at WSSU. He is an accomplished, energetic, passionate higher education administrator, with a diverse collection of professional leadership experiences. Dr. Lawrence has experience in providing strategic leadership in academic affairs, specifically in the areas of student success and retention. Furthermore, he possesses superb interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate both students and staff in the academic environment. Dr. Lawrence has an undying commitment to student success, particularly among students of color, and more specifically assisting students in reaching their academic abilities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). He continues to seek professional growth in the area of academic affairs and student services.
Dr. Debzani Deb is the RJ Reynolds Endowed Professor of Computer Science and the Founding Director of Center for Applied Data Science (CADS) at Winston-Salem State University. She is an experienced Professor of Computer Science with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education and industry. Dr. Deb brings strong experience and research skills in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science education, and Parallel and Distributed Systems. She has served has been interviewed by the Journal of Higher Education on her expertise with generative AI and AI technology, and she currently serves as the lead for a WSSU Team who is a part of the AAC&U AI Institute 2025-2026.
Dr. Zagros Madjd-Sadjadi is a Professor of Economics at Winston-Salem State and the Chair of the MBA program. Dr. Zagros leads the AI course development efforts in his department by teaching an AI Ethics course. He is currently a Faculty Facilitator for the Integrating Generative AI Faculty Learning Community for CITI.
Dr. Jack Monell is a Professor of Justice Studies at Winston-Salem State University. Dr. Monell is a champion for digital literacy, closing the digital divide for students and faculty, and integrating innovative teaching practices using technology. Dr. Monell is a national leader and speaker for digital literacy, and he was named an Adobe Thought Leader. He is currently a Faculty Facilitator for the Integrating Generative AI Faculty Learning Community for CITI.
Lance Gill is a student at WSSU, and he is also a scholar athlete as a member of the WSSU Men's Basketball team. Lance is a junior Computer Science major, and he is also an Adobe Ambassador for WSSU.

Dr. Siobahn Day Grady is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Founding Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Research (IAIER) at North Carolina Central University. She leads research and partnerships that advance ethical, human-centered AI while preparing the next generation of innovators through teaching, public engagement, and collaboration. The first woman to earn a Ph.D. in Computer Science from North Carolina A&T State University, she is committed to making technology effective and accessible for learners and institutions. Dr. Day Grady also serves as Faculty Fellow Lead Partner for e-Learning Excellence and was recently inducted into the NC A&T Graduate College Hall of Fame and appointed to the North Carolina Governor’s AI Leadership Council.

Dr. Miranda Rodak is the Associate Director of the Communication and Professional Skills Department and a Senior Lecturer at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University Bloomington. In her role, she supports faculty through annual and promotion reviews while teaching and leading pedagogical initiatives. With 20+ years of experience in communication, writing, rhetoric, and general education, Dr. Rodak is passionate about building learner-success programs that equip critical thinkers, communicators, and digital citizens with the agility to share their uniquely human voices in solving ambiguous problems in today’s multimodal world. Dr. Rodak's talents span across many professional areas; she teaches strategic business writing to undergraduates and graduate MBA students, integrating career competencies along with AI and digital literacy through experiential and project-based methods. Her research focus is the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and has published individually and collaboratively on this topic as well as teaching and learning.
