Welcome to the the 2025-2026 Broughal Music Blast! We're back! We hope everyone had a great first week of school! Broughal Music has a lot planned throughout the school year, and we hope you'll join us on this journey! This edition of the Blast features information about our Mandatory Meeting, upcoming fundraisers, and next week's lessons and rehearsals. Our first early-morning rehearsal is on Wednesday, 9/3, at 7 AM, for Band, Majorettes, and Honor Guard. Welcome back to school, everyone! Go Rockets! Mandatory Music Meeting - Thursday, 9/4, 7:30 PM
Our first music meeting for the 2025-2026 school year will be our Mandatory Music Meeting! This meeting will take place at the end of Back to School Night, on Thursday, September 4th, at 7:30 PM, in Broughal's Auditorium! We will discuss important information for Broughal Music this year, including fundraisers, performances, trips, and rules & expectations.
Instrumental Music Lessons Begin
Lessons will begin on Tuesday, September 2. All instrumental music students should have received their first lesson assignments earlier this week, during homeroom. Please note that all lessons take place during the students' Related Arts periods. Early-Morning Rehearsals Begin
Early-morning rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, September 3. Wednesdays are reserved for Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard. Students should report to the main entrance on Morton Street as early as 6:55 AM but no later than 7:05 AM, on their assigned rehearsal day, based on the following rehearsal schedule:
- MONDAYS: Jazz Band
- TUESDAYS: NO EARLY-MORNING
- WEDNESDAYS: Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard
- THURSDAYS: NO EARLY-MORNING
- FRIDAYS: Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard

Discovery Orchestra Rehearsals Begin
The first Discovery Orchestra rehearsal is on Tuesday, 9/9, at 8:45 AM (Period 1)! Discovery Orchestra is open to all Broughal students who play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass). Rehearsals are held every Tuesday and Thursday, during Period 1 (8:45 - 9:35 AM). We use these rehearsals to prepare for concerts, community events, school functions, and the annual Spring Trip. Join the Broughal Southside Singers!
Please complete this form to register for the Southside Singers (even if you were registered last year)! You must register using your @basdschools.org account. Please note the following important dates:
- Saturday, 9/6, 9 AM - 12 PM: Choral Workshop with Dr. Joy Hirokawa & the Mosaic Youth Choir
- Monday, 9/8, 7:45 - 8:20 AM: First Southside Singers Rehearsal
Rehearsals continue Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for the remainder of the school year. On Wednesdays, students should report to their regular homerooms. We welcome all students who love singing, regardless of musical experience or whether or not they believe they have a "good voice." Handbook Forms Due - Wednesday, 10/1
Like past years, we will be using Google Forms to collect your responses for your Handbook Forms. CLICK HERE to access and complete your forms. If you need paper copies of the Handbook Forms, please contact one of the Directors. All electronic and paper Handbook Forms are due by Wednesday, 10/1. Don't forget to fill out the paper BASD Medical Form (English | Español) in addition to the electronic forms!
Volunteers Needed
One of the most helpful ways to assist Broughal Music is by volunteering! Depending on the event, you'll be assisting and supporting students and directors so that EVERYONE can have a successful, stress-free performance/event! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org) as soon as possible and let him know which of the following events you would like to volunteer for:
- By Fri, 10/3: Uniform Fitting - during early-morning (7-8 AM) or during school
- Wed, 10/15: Broughal-Northeast Game
- Sat, 10/18: Picture Day (Band, Maj, HG) & Nazareth Halloween Parade
- Sun, 10/19: Hellertown Halloween Parade
- Sun, 10/26: Bethlehem Halloween Parade
- Tue, 11/11: Veterans Day Ceremony
Please note that adult volunteers must have active clearances on file with the Broughal Music Department BEFORE volunteering. Additionally, community service students are limited to students currently attending Liberty High School or Freedom High School. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Directors.
Gertrude Hawk Candy Fundraiser
Our first fundraiser starts on Thursday, 9/4. Check out the following details for more information on our first and one of our most popular fundraisers:
- Boxes of candy will be available for pick-up on Thursday, 9/4. Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian when signing out boxes of candy.
- There are 48 bars in each candy box. Each candy bar costs $2.50 (2 for $5.00). Students should return $120 to the BMPO. All money and orders are due on Thursday, 9/25.
- For each box sold, students earn $50 towards their Broughal Music account.
$50 Fair Share Due Thursday, 9/25
The $50 Fair Share is due on Thursday, 9/25. We use this money to purchase music, supplies, clothing, food, and beverages. We also use these funds to pay for transportation, field trips, and various items and events throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact the directors as soon as possible.
Fundraiser & Monthly Payment Plans
Broughal Music has created the following Student Fundraiser Plan and Monthly Payment Plan to help students and families pay for trips and Fair Share. Please note that these plans are optional. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Directors.
Student Account Information
Want to know how much money is in your child's account and how much money you owe for Fair Share and the Spring Trip? Check out the Broughal Music website or the following button/link. The document is organized by Student ID number, so make sure you have the ID number ready. If you cannot find your child's ID number, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org).
Do you know when your next lesson is? Have you been practicing your instrument? Check the Lesson Schedule regularly so that you are prepared for your next lesson. Remember, you need to attend 17 lessons per instrument in order to attend the Spring Trip!
THEATRE SCHEDULE
Information Meeting - Wednesday, 9/10, 3:05-3:30 PM
Learn about our theatre company, the production, and how you can participate on or off the stage! All students in grades 6-8 are invited to attend!
Audition Prep Workshop, Wednesday, 10/1, 3:05 - 4:15 PM
Planning to audition for a part in the show? Come to this workshop to learn about our audition process (which is DIFFERENT this year!) and how to best prepare yourself for the stage. We will provide audition packets, tips, and exercises to help you get ready for your audition.
Newsies AUDITIONS - Saturday, 10/11
Sign-ups for the auditions will be posted following the workshop on October 1st. Please note your time when signing up and plan to arrive early to prepare accordingly! Times TBD based on sign-ups.
