Our Manor 19-23 May 2025

Welcome to this week's newsletter

We have a had another positive week at Manor. I was privileged to attend the NMPAT Big Sing at the Derngate in Northampton on Thursday night. Manor was represented at this event by students from different year groups, singing their hearts out with other schools from across Northamptonshire. Two of our students, Jessica and Emily, led the whole Big Sing choir with Makaton symbols for them to follow, a truly nerve wracking but inclusive moment that they handled with great composure. It was a proud moment when the whole group took centre stage for the final number, showing what we want the best Manor students to be - proud and keen to try new things that give them different experiences. Well done to Farren, Angel, Amelie, Emily, Callum, Hannah, Alice, Willow, Lillie, Amia, Charlie, Chloe, Isobelle and Jessica. Thank you to Mrs Jarvis for accompanying the students to Northampton, Miss Bishop for preparing them, and the parents and carers who were there to support them on the night.

Exams are still going and one of the most positive experiences I have each day is visiting the restaurant before morning exams to see students, tutors, pastoral staff and subject teachers working together to set our Year 11 students up for their exams. I see a range of revision materials being used, which shows how committed our students are to this important time of the year. The small groups of Year 13s I find outside the LRC waiting for exams are equally as reflective, calm and collected before their exams. As always, I wish them good luck in what is left, but I am always impressed by their approach to their exams.

I also met our new Head Students Lois, Chris and Aimee, to discuss fundraising activities and to build links with our local community. We are looking to run a number of reward events in Term 6 and the more money we can raise, the more and better events we can run. If you have contacts with local groups or businesses that would like to support their fundraising by providing donations, please contact the school through the principal@manor.school email address.

As we reach the end of Term 5 and we have a week to recharge and relax, I encourage our students to be positive and responsible members of our local communities. Think about what you can do for people who need help and not to waste the time you are given. Stay safe and look out for each other. I look forward to your return and school starting again on Monday 2 June.

Sports news

District athletics event

On Wednesday 21 May, a group of our students proudly represented the school at Oundle, showcasing not only their talent and determination but also the core values that make our school community so special. Whether competing or supporting one another, each student demonstrated commendable dedication and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

The event brought together schools from across the district, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. Our students rose to the occasion, taking on every challenge with energy and enthusiasm. From the moment they arrived, they conducted themselves with maturity and integrity, earning praise not only from staff but also from event organisers and fellow schools.

We are delighted to celebrate some fantastic individual performances:

  • Reuben B-C achieved an impressive third place in the U15 boys’ 800m, showing both grit and tactical awareness
  • Aidan H sprinted to a strong second place finish in the U17 boys’ 200m, demonstrating speed and power
  • Luke B earned a well-deserved third place in the U17 boys’ javelin, with a powerful and consistent series of throws
  • Summer S put in a determined performance to secure third place in the U15 girls’ 300m, combining speed and stamina with real heart

A huge well done to all those who took part. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved - you were fantastic ambassadors for our school.

Sports leaders

A huge well done and thank you to Rebecca C, Evan EL, Logan R, Henry S, Harry B, James EY, Ciaran B, Logan A, Grayson T Prince W and Aaron P for their fantastic leadership on Thursday 22 May to support the School Games Primary Quicksticks Hockey competition. They were superb in the delivery of the initial skills stations and were again professional, confident and mature with the officiating of the games; this was particularly impressive as for most of these young people this was their first time leading in this format, plus many don't even play hockey! As ever, we are extremely proud of our students and the applause they received from the visiting teachers and children was testament to this.
