Principal's Message

Week 5 at Mullumbimby High School was bustling with exciting learning opportunities, sporting achievements, and important reminders for our school community.

University Showcase

We were pleased to welcome representatives from several universities and TAFE NSW to our school. Year 11 students had the valuable chance to explore a wide range of pathways to university and further study, learn about university life, and discover scholarship opportunities. It was particularly inspiring for our students to meet university staff who were former Mullumbimby High students, reinforcing the strong connection between our school and higher education providers.

A successful sporting week

It was a very busy and successful sporting week at MHS, with our students embodying the school motto of “Play the Game”. The Open Boys Basketball team demonstrated great effort at the Far North Coast CHS Gala Day, securing a win and a strong performance in their matches. Our Lawn Bowls team performed admirably, winning their first match against Wollumbin and competing fiercely against the eventual champions, Ballina Coast. Furthermore, congratulations to our AFL players — seven of whom were selected for the Far North Coast AFL team to compete at the upcoming North Coast Championships. This is a fantastic achievement reflecting their skills and dedication. In swimming, well done to our 15 Years Girls and 14 Years Boys 4 × 50 m relay teams — Billie, Harper, Jinja, Lily-Rose, Marley, Molly, and Phoenix — who excelled at the Far North Coast Swimming Carnival and have qualified for the North Coast Swimming Championships in Kempsey. Special congratulations to all swimmers who achieved personal bests and represented our school with pride. In Year 12 Health and Movement Science, students embraced a hands-on learning experience focused on recovery strategies. They explored muscle recovery techniques by using trigger balls to release tight muscles, followed by an immersive ice bath session. This practical approach enabled students to better understand how athletes support muscle recovery and enhance performance. I want to commend all students for their enthusiasm and commitment in taking on this challenge.

A gentle reminder regarding Monday early departure

Permanent leave passes for 2:30pm on Mondays are only available to students who live in Mullumbimby and can walk or ride home directly. Students requiring early leave due to a one-off appointment must apply through the front office before 10:00am on that day. Recently, there have been numerous late requests which we cannot accommodate going forward, except in exceptional circumstances. This policy ensures we maintain our duty of care and student safety. Thank you to families for your understanding and cooperation.

Coming Up this week, we have our Step-Up evening!

This is a great opportunity for our future students and their families to get to know our school a little better. At MHS we have excellent relationships with our partner primary schools, and our school staffs work together to ensure that every student who transitions to and through our schools is genuinely known, valued and cared for. If you have a student in Year 5 or 6, please join us on Thursday evening from 5:15pm for a tour of the school and an opportunity to meet our dedicated and expert educators.

Thursday 5 March 2026

Current Year 7 Families Meet & Greet

Monday 9 March from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, all current Year 7 Parents and Carers are invited to a Meet & Greet afternoon in the school library. This is an informal opportunity to meet our school staff and other Year 7 parents. Light refreshments will be served. Parents are also invited to stay back and join the P&C meeting afterwards if they wish.

Reminder of school procedures: Leaving Early, Arriving Late or Messages

GOING AWAY 5 DAYS OR MORE? A reminder to our school community that the NSW DET requires that parents arrange holiday DURING school vacations. If your family holiday is during school time, you will need to inform the School Principal in advance and submit a permission to leave from school. An application for leave should be provided at least two weeks prior to departure. Ask our office for an “Application for Leave” BEFORE the holiday. ABSENT, LATE OR EARLY?  If your child is not at school, let us know they are safe. We will let you know they are not at school with an SMS message if we have not heard from you. COMING IN LATE?  School starts every day at 8:50am for all students. If students arrive after that time and miss CARE (roll call), please let the school know why they are late or provide them with a note. Students need to sign in at Student Services Office as soon as they arrive on the premises. LEAVING EARLY? Only legitimate one-off appointments will be approved by the principal. A note or a phone call should be made to Student Services before 9:30am and a leave pass will be processed. MESSAGES TO STUDENTS? Please call before 2pm. Only URGENT messages will be passed on during class time. We ask that all arrangements regarding after school activities be discussed with your student BEFORE school to avoid stress and distraction.
