Dear Bluejay Family,
Welcome to September! As we approach the 5th week of school, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. Our students have settled into their routines beautifully, and it’s wonderful to see the Bluejay spirit shining bright each day!
School, like life, has many rules—and for good reason. We create guidelines to protect and uphold the things we value. But as humans, we sometimes hold onto traditions so tightly that we lose sight of what truly matters. Today’s Gospel from Mark 7 offers an important reflection on this.
Jesus reminds us that the laws and traditions we follow have a deeper purpose. When we focus too much on preserving customs, we may lose sight of God’s essential truths. But when we embrace the law in its true spirit, it brings life, growth, and freedom, rather than fear or rigidity.
As we continue through the school year, let’s aim to honor God’s law in ways that strengthen our relationship with Him and with each other. May we experience the love and freedom that come from a mature understanding of His will.
I hope you all enjoy a restful Labor Day tomorrow, filled with relaxation and renewal. We look forward to seeing students back on Tuesday, ready for another great week of learning and growth.
Grace & Peace,
Erin B. Henry
Principal
"But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code." Romans 7:6
SCS Mass
Mass is on Wednesday at 8:30 and will be hosted by 6th grade girls. Guests may join us in the church (limited seating), choir loft, Narthex and PLC. Mass is also streamed online at shbroussard.org/live or the St. Cecilia Facebook page.
Important Mass Info
This week we are so excited to baptize five of our Bluejay friends at our school Mass! This is an important and beautiful step in their faith journey and we are grateful to be part of it! There will be reserved seating in the church for their families and our PreK/K students are joining us this week. This means there will be very little seating in church this week. You can still join us in the choir loft, Narthex or PLC. Thanks for understanding!
Mass Music
- Entrance: “Here I Am to Worship”
- Offertory: “Come in Close”
- Communion: “Goodness of God”, “God So Loved”
- Exit: “How Great is Our God”
Discipleship Retreat
At Sacred Heart, we hold tight to this one vision: Encountering Jesus, Becoming Missionary Disciples. Many of you have adopted this vision and made it your own. We believe that as we journey together in faith intentional time and energy should be focused on exactly how we live out this mission, specifically on how we as a parish better equip people to serve the mission. This retreat will be a day of equipping!
Join us on Saturday, September 7 @ 9AM-2PM in the Multipurpose Room of our One Heart Building. This retreat is FREE and open to all!
Lunch will be provided! Your registration helps us have an accurate meal count, so please register by Monday, September 2nd.

HIS HOUSE
Each student and staff member is part of a house (House of Faith, House of Grace, House of Hope, or House of Love) within the Bluejay family. As a family, we have certain guidelines that we must follow to work as individuals to become a whole. SCS refers to these guidelines as Feathers. They are separated into three categories: Student Feathers, Staff Feathers, and Parent Feathers. We strive to be our best and to adhere to these guidelines which focus on the Core Values we share with Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. We will introduce and spotlight one feather per week in the hopes that we can be united together to continue to make SCS the BEST!

Dear Bluejay Family,
Welcome to game week for football and volleyball. Our football team will play in its jamboree on Saturday morning at Teurlings against Cathedral. Volleyball hits the road this week, and cross country is still in practice mode. Last week, the 5/6th grade football team played a preseason game Wednesday night at Teurlings against Westminster, while the 7/8th grade played Sts. Leo Seton. Our younger boys fought hard, but came up short. The boys had fun, and showed promise. The 7/8th grade dominated all night. The coaching staffs are extremely proud of both teams as we are set to kick off the season. Our volleyball teams are something to see. They are playing at a very high level right now. They are in midseason form and we are a week into the season. The success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the kids, parents, and coaches.
