Dear Families, Friends, Students and Staff.
I hope you all enjoyed the lovely weather this week – it certainly brightened our days, as you will see below in the photos. Beyond the sunshine, we've had a week filled with valuable learning experiences.
Our assembly today focused on microaggressions and banter. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of thoughtful communication and the impact our words can have. Please do ask your child about this and see what they can recall. Mr. Rush and I have both attended training over the last two weeks, where we spent time learning from experts on the vital role of belonging. They explored creating safe spaces for students and ensuring they feel "seen, valued, and heard." These sessions reinforced our commitment to ensuring every student feels a strong sense of connection and support within our school community.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Rich

World Book Day
It’s World Book Day on Thursday 6th March, so students will be able to come in dressed as their favourite book character or an adjective - ‘sporty’, ‘colourful’ or even ‘sparkly’!
If students don’t want to dress up - that’s fine - it’s totally optional! They can come in uniform, as usual.
Students who have Games in the afternoon, will need to make sure they are wearing appropriate clothing. They may need to bring their PE kit to change into at lunchtime if their costume is particularly elaborate!
They can also bring in a book themed lunch and there will be other activities for them to take part in throughout the day.
Sporting Round-up
This week, Canbury’s finest marksmen (and women) assembled for the new after-school shooting club at Surbiton Postal Rifles Club. A full minibus load of students were extremely excited about the prospect of learning to shoot, and the session did not disappoint. After a safety talk from the instructors, students were loading up the air rifles and taking aim. As you can see below everyone had a fantastic time and is already looking forward to next week!
The sun!
We saw a return of the elusive sun this week! Students took the opportunity to get outside and enjoy it as you can see from the photos below.
Art Room Update
Year 7 have been practising their clay modelling skills for their symbolism project and created some brilliant miniature skulls in preparation for making the full size version next week! We look forward to seeing your fantastic creations!
Year 10 Photography students have been studying the works of Vilde Rolfsen - Plastic Bag Landscapes. Rolfsen wanted to work with an everyday object, and she stumbled on to the plastic bag and whilst adjusting her camera, the inside of a plastic bag was over the lens. She was inspired by what she saw and set out to find bags to photograph. What do you think they look like?
Well done to Frankie in Y12 for completing his final art piece. The theme was ‘messages’ and he chose to study the artist Emily Kame Kngwarre, the first female Australian Aboriginal artist. Unlike most desert painters at the time, Kngwarreye did not use stylized representations of animal tracks or concentric circles in her designs. Instead, she employed richly layered brushstrokes or dabs throughout her abstract compositions. Her free handling of paint using various implements, keen sense of colour, and dynamic compositions earned her international fame. Her work will be exhibited at the Tate Modern from July to January, a show not to be missed!
What's been bubbling in the Lab?
It has been a week of identifying the chemical using colour changes in science. The year 9’s have been enjoying investigating foods and the nutrients they contain using chemical reagents. Observing colour changes and relating them to the nutrients they contain. Whilst the year 10s have been watching lime water turn cloudy in the presence of their own exhaled gases.
Chat and Chill
See below for a new club that is up and running. Do ask Mrs Anjum if you want further information.
Easter Egg Appeal
One of our Alumni, Mallory, works with the charity Care4Calais and has reached out to ask if our school community would support their most recent drive for donations. Please see the flyer below for details. If you would like to send in a donation, please ask your child to deliver it to Mrs Rich's office by the 17th March.
Harry's Walk for Charity
Harry in Year 9 is joining a charity walk, March of the day, which is a 3-day walking event between football grounds in London ending at Portman Road (he’s only allowed to do a leg, not the whole thing!) organised by the Darby Rimmer Foundation and Marcus Stewart previously of ITFC on Fri 21st March. This is to raise awareness and money for MND. If you would like to sponsor him please follow the link here.
Student Corner
