Speech Day

Today, we were delighted to welcome parents, Governors, invited guests, staff, and students—past and present—for a wonderful Speech Day celebration to mark the end of our academic year. The orchestra and choirs gave outstanding performances, including Defying Gravity from Wicked and Epic III from Hadestown. Our outgoing Head Girl Team shared some of their favourite memories from their time at KC, and Miss Handford reflected on our ASPIRE values in action—achievement, purposeful citizenship, individuality, respect, reliability, and enquiring and creative minds—and how the students have truly brought these to life in all they’ve done.

This year’s Guest of Honour was Old Girl Guinevere Poncia, now a Nuclear Non-Proliferation Policy Officer at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Guinevere gave an inspiring address, reflecting on her journey from KC to a career in diplomacy, the importance of global citizenship, and the value of resilience, purpose, and strong relationships. Drawing on personal experiences and professional insights, she encouraged students to embrace the unexpected, stay true to their passions, and nurture the connections that sustain them.

It was a joyful celebration of our students’ achievements, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one.

Sports Day

Senior School Sports Day was, as always, a brilliant way to round off another outstanding year of KC Sport—and, for the first time, it was held on a weekday. With parents, staff, and supporters cheering from the sidelines, the atmosphere was electric as school records were broken, personal bests smashed, and every student gave their all for their House. Danes, Saxons and Celts all put in fantastic performances, but it was Celts who emerged victorious this year. Afterwards, students and their families enjoyed a relaxed picnic on the lawn, rounding off the day with a well-earned celebration. A huge well done to everyone who took part and showed true sportsmanship, determination, and competitive spirit!

Geography Trip to Iceland

Our Geography students had the unforgettable opportunity to explore Iceland’s extraordinary natural wonders on this year’s trip. Highlights included a glacier walk on Sólheimajökull, the breathtaking waterfalls of Gullfoss and Skógafoss, and the dramatic Kerid Crater. Students witnessed the raw power of nature at the Strokkur geyser and explored the unique geology of Þingvellir National Park, the only place on Earth where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge rises above sea level. The trip also featured a relaxing visit to the Secret Lagoon and a fiery finale at the lava show in Reykjavik—bringing classroom learning to life in the most spectacular setting.

Enrichment Activities Week

Year 7 Trip to Ashburnham

Year 7 spent the beginning of this week on their residential trip to Ashburnham. They have taken part in a variety of fun team-building activities such as kayaking, bushcraft, cycling, fencing, archery and raft building. Great fun was had by all!

Years 8, 9, 10 and Lower Sixth

Activities Week 2025 was a brilliant way to end the year, with students in Years 8–10 and the Lower Sixth enjoying a mix of adventure, teamwork, and real-world experience.

Year 8 began with a Duke of Edinburgh induction, learning navigation skills and completing a hike. This was followed by inflatable challenges at Bewl Water and an energetic day of paintballing. Year 9 kicked off with team-building and bushcraft at Arena Pursuits, followed by water fun at Action Watersports and a final day of confidence activities and paintballing.

Year 10 spent Monday at Carroty Wood, tackling rope courses and raft building, before joining Year 9 at Action Watersports and enjoying a final-day trip to Thorpe Park. Lower Sixth students completed two days of work experience placements, with many arranging additional opportunities over the summer. On Wednesday, those not on trips enjoyed a well-earned visit to Thorpe Park.

A huge well done to everyone who made the most of the week with enthusiasm, teamwork, and great spirit!

Lower Sixth Visit Magistrates' Court

On Friday Lower Sixth Sociology students witnessed the criminal justice system in action at a day of hearings at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court. Sitting in the court public gallery brought the Crime and Deviance component of the Sociology course to life and allowed them to engage in non-participant observational research. The criminal courts had full lists of hearings allowing the girls to see a wide range of cases including matters being referred to the Crown Court and offenders on video link from prison. The students observed the work of defence solicitors, the Crown Prosecution Service, Probation officers, Legal advisor to the Court and three sitting Magistrates. The students listened to cases on a range of offences and noted the influence of substance abuse, poverty, and mental health concerns on the defendants and victims of crime.

Soroptomist Club

The Soroptimist School Club wrapped up a fantastic term and year with a surprise end of term party and a special certificate ceremony led by Chaplain Katie. A highlight of the term was the impressive fundraising effort by Emma, Tabitha and Phoebe who raised £150 for the Mukti Foundation in Chennai, India. Their contribution will provide three prosthetic limbs for amputees in India. We are incredibly proud of their compassion and dedication. Their efforts will make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Join the KCPA!

Please find attached a flyer from the Kent College Parents’ Association (KCPA), which works closely with parents, teachers, and staff in the Senior School to support events and initiatives that benefit our students.

As the current leadership team will be stepping down this year, they are seeking a new team, including a Chair, Co-Chairs, and Treasurer, to continue this important connection between parents and the school. They also welcome general volunteers to assist with events and activities.

Please note: this doesn't have to be a big commitment; any help or time you can give, would be much appreciated.
