Conrad Bi-Weekly Memo January 31, 2025

Principal's Message

We’ve had a strong start to the second semester, providing students with a great opportunity to reflect, make adjustments, and set goals for continued growth and success. Your support is invaluable, and attending Parent-Teacher Conferences (February 13th or 14th) is a wonderful way to stay engaged in your student’s academic journey.

Our sports teams are competing well, and we’re excited to see how they perform as they approach the state tournament competitions.

Looking ahead to next month, we’re eagerly anticipating key events, including SAT/PSAT Day and our highly anticipated school play.

Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to seeing you at these events!

Mission- Conrad Schools of Science… teaching life science and life lessons in a kind and inclusive environment, inspiring students and improving the world.

Vision- Conrad Schools of Science will empower students to achieve their goals and impact the community.

Do you know a Red Clay classroom teacher who is dedicated, inspiring, and making a difference? If so, please take the time to nominate this person for the 2025-2026 Red Clay Teacher of the Year award by completing this form. Students, employees, parents/guardians and community members are encouraged to nominate one or more of these dynamic and inspirational teachers. FAFSA Help is Available

Attention seniors and parents of seniors: Do you still need to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for college? If so, please join us for a FAFSA Completion Workshop on 2/27/25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the library. This is a workshop to help apply for money for college. Facilitators from Stand By Me NexGen will work with students and parents to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) from the website at www.StudentAid.Gov. Register for the workshop here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/16cmhY8p4n6dRa_dU2lunC4s3RUl0T3NhTz471TCLOUY/edit

Participants will work at individual devices (students must bring their school issued chrome book) and enter their information toward competing the application. The facilitators will make themselves available as they move throughout the room to assist in addressing questions, making suggestions, and clarifying sections of the application.

A handout will be shared via email to the student and parent once registered. The 25-26 FAFSA application will require ALL contributors to the FAFSA to have an FSA ID - username and password. That means that at least one parent in the home will need to create a FSA ID as well as the student. You must create this BEFORE you start the FAFSA as it may take 1-3 days for verification: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account).

For help with creating a FAFSA ID before the event, appointments are available via ZOOM by scheduling an appointment with Stand By Me NexGen here: https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule/04adeba3

For questions about registration, contact Nadia Borges at: nadia.borges@redclay.k12.de.us; 302-995-5545.

Stewardship in Action!

Our Stewardship class is teaming up with SERC, the North American Orchid Conservation Center, and Smithsonian Gardens to unlock the hidden connections between the Chadds Ford Atlantic Ladies’-Tresses orchid and the fungi it depends on to grow. By studying which fungi each orchid species needs—and the environmental conditions that support them both—we’re working toward conservation solutions that protect these delicate ecosystems. 🍃💚 Stay tuned as we dig deeper into this fascinating relationship and take action for native orchid conservation! 🌍🦋 #StewardshipInAction #NativeOrchidConservation #ChaddsFordOrchids #FungiFriends #SERC #NAOCC #SmithsonianGardens #EnvironmentalScience
