AI and Sustainability

How can AI help us design smarter, more sustainable systems for our planet, communities, and campus? Students might focus on solutions such as:

  • 🌎 AI tools that help reduce campus energy or water waste
  • 🌱 AI-powered tools that help students track and reduce their carbon footprint
  • 🚲 Smart transportation planning tools to reduce emissions

Think about environmental, economic, or social sustainability for the CSUN campus.

AI and Accessibility / Assistive Technologies

How might AI expand access, inclusion, and independence for people at CSUN? Possible solution directions include:

  • 📱 Apps that assist students with visual, hearing, mobility, or cognitive disabilities
  • 🧠 AI systems that personalize learning for neurodiverse students
  • 🌐 Accessibility auditing tools that evaluate websites or digital content

Consider both visible and invisible barriers for CSUN students

AI and Ethics

What ethical challenges emerge as AI shapes decisions, and how can we design more responsible systems at CSUN? Students could explore solutions such as:

  • ⚖️ AI bias detection tools that flag untrue and/or unfair outcomes
  • 🔎 Transparency dashboards that show how an AI system makes decisions
  • 🛡 Privacy-protection tools that help users control their data

Your project might propose a new system, framework, policy model, or accountability mechanism.

AI and Career Readiness

How is AI transforming the future of work, and how can CSUN students prepare to thrive alongside AI? Solution ideas may include:

  • 💼 AI career coaching tools personalized to students’ majors
  • 🧭 Skills-mapping platforms that connect coursework to emerging job markets
  • 📝 Resume optimization tools that teach students how to responsibly use AI

Focus on empowering students, but not replacing them.

AI in Student Well-Being

  • 🧘 AI-powered wellness check-in tools
  • 📆 Smart academic workload planners to reduce burnout
  • 🤝 Community-building platforms that connect students with shared interests
  • 🚨 Early-alert systems that identify patterns of academic stress

Be thoughtful about privacy, consent, and ethical safeguards in this track.

Open Innovation (Wildcard Track)

Have a bold idea about AI that doesn’t fit neatly into a category? This is your space to explore it. Possible directions:

  • 🎨 AI in the arts or creative expression
  • 🏙 AI for civic engagement or community problem-solving

If you see an opportunity where AI could improve systems, challenge assumptions, or create meaningful change — this is your track.
