Ingoldsby Academy Update January 2026

It's been another busy start to the new year! We have a full timetable for sporting opportunities in KS2, the practice for Hansel and Gretel for Y 3,4 and 5 and swimming has begun for Y5/6.

Learning snapshots

In Talk for Reading, buzzards used drama exercises to explore the text 'Rooftoppers' by  Katherine Rundell.  In 'science' buzzards have been learning about evolution and completed a 'bird beak investigation' to help with our learning about Darwin's finches (the Galapagos finches) and the idea of natural selection.

School site improvements

With Andrew Bell joining us as caretaker last term, we have been making progress with the school grounds. The holes in the field have been filled ready for spring sports and he has created a large chalk board area in EYFS. Over the coming weeks and months, we have plans to create 2 usable spaces for pupils- one furnishing my office as a space both for children to use at break, counselling/ play therapy sessions and a more comfortable meeting space. The other, we hope to create a sensory room in the cupboard off the hall. I am excited for the toilets to be refurbished at Easter- this is long over due!

Food Focus

Last year we used some of the Lidl Foodies resources in school. Here is a voucher from Lidl to get a free bag of fruit!

Spotlight on Safeguarding

Thank you for supporting us in avoiding the use of the carpark. Remember that the zigzags are also not to be used for pick up and drop off!

Spotlight on SEND

Pathological demand avoidance is something that has come up in conversations with parents and is rarely explicitly diagnosed. A tool for your belt, if supporting a pupil who becomes anxious when faced with demands, is declarative language. There are a number of interesting videos on social media with advice in this area. I particularly enjoy the insights from Comfa-Sensory Clothing on Facebook as Max tells us about his experience as a child with PDA.

Gifted Musical Instrument Scam targeting Lincolnshire School's and Parents:

Message from LCC music service:

I’m writing to you from the Lincolnshire County Council Community Safety team. We have been made aware of a scam directed at schools and parents.   A person emails a school or parent with photos of a Piano (or valuable musical instrument) for sale following a recent bereavement of their husband or wife. They’ll ask for upfront payment for delivery and then never deliver the item. Fake adverts can appear on auction sites, online marketplaces, search engines, in your social media feeds or be directly sent to schools, businesses and individuals. Fraudsters can use AI to create adverts that look genuine, but the aim is to steal money from you or sell you fake or non-existent goods.   If you’ve seen something that doesn’t feel right, STOP
