University of Northampton #IDEK Performance

On Monday, 8th July, Lodge Park Academy hosted the University of Northampton’s #IDEK theatre performance group. The company members, who are students in the Drama and Acting Undergraduate Programmes at the university, aimed to support students with decision-making skills as they approach the next phase of their education and the choices they need to make.

Students from Years 8 and 12 attended the show and received valuable information on how to make important decisions regarding their option subjects and Post-18 choices. Feedback from the students revealed that they found the sessions informative.

Careers Fair

On Friday, July 5, 2024, Lodge Park Academy proudly held its first-ever Careers Fair, welcoming a diverse group of employers and educational institutions. Participants included representatives from Starting Off, Wincanton, Wilson Browne Solicitors, Northlands Vets, Barclays Specialist Care, New Horizons Care, Tresham College, and the University of Northampton.

The event received glowing feedback from the attendees. Employers praised the organisation and student engagement, sharing comments such as, "A really positive experience; the students were great, the organization was excellent, and we felt really well looked after, thank you." Another remarked, "A well-organised event with a great buzz," while a third noted, "The event was really well organised, the staff were friendly, and the students were polite and engaged”.

Students also had high praise for the event. One student commented, "I liked it because the people were nice, and they gave us good advice." Another added, "It was informative with a wide range of career paths to explore in depth."

With such positive feedback, Lodge Park Academy is looking forward to hosting their next Careers Fair, which is scheduled for June 2025. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to provide valuable opportunities for our students.

DRET Musician of the Year finals - Thursday 11th July 2024

Each year, DRET host a trust-wide Musician of the Year competition, which this year focused on instrumentalists. LPA entered seven students into the competition earlier in the year, performing solos on piano, guitar and drums.

Charlee was successful in being chosen for the finals on electric guitar, so 13 students travelled with him to support his performance at the Lakeside Arts Centre of the University of Nottingham. Charlee performed his chosen piece, "Kites" by U2 incredibly well, being described by the adjudicator as "fluent, expressive and well controlled".

We enjoyed listening to exceptional performances from students in many DRET schools and students have returned inspired to practice hard and enter the competition next year.

DRET Choral Festival - Friday 5th July Derngate Theatre

18 students from LPA took part in the DRET Choral Festival at The Derngate Theatre in Northampton, working with DRET Director of Music Simon Toyne and the incredible BBC singers along with students from other DRET primary and secondary schools.

They performed challenging and technical repertoire, ranging from Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" to a medley of operatic arias by Bizet and Wagner, to the classic "You'll Never Walk Alone". We were so proud of the students who worked incredibly hard and showed LPA spirit throughout.

Trinity Grade 8 Voice Result

We have just received the fantastic news that Tate in Year 12 passed her Trinity Grade 8 singing exam with a merit.

This is the highest graded music examination possible and gives her 24 extra UCAS points. Tate was accompanied in her exam by our LPA Musician in Residence, Lucy Murphy.

Huge congratulations to Tate!

LPA vocal workshop and choral spectacular - Wednesday 10th July

We are so lucky at Lodge Park to have the amazing Rhonda Browne as our vocal teacher, who is a professional operatic contralto. https://www.rhondabrowne.com

On Wednesday, Rhonda treated our vocalists to a 2 hour workshop on technique and vocal performance practice. The students were inspired by her and their confidence blossomed under her guidance. In the evening we hosted a Vocal Spectacular concert in which the students performed their vocal solos to an incredibly appreciative audience. The concert was rounded off by the LPA choir which is growing day by day.
