I created an apple for this piece, a simple apple red and round, although not significant, it being a Pink Lady Apple is what makes it different. During this piece, I learned how to find and mix colors to create highlights and shadows as well as learned that blending colors makes a piece look smooth and complete. My goal was to simply make an apple and that I did (although the goal was of course to make it look as appealing as an apple can be). I did enjoy doing this piece and I would say that I am proud of it, for it was the first step to being able to enjoy drawing once again, and starting with just one simple apple I knew was going to lead me to an endless amount of creativity from drawing once again. I hope that my audience realizes that this piece is an apple and that it looks like one that they would see in any grocery store.
Utilizing the same Pink Lady Apple from the previous drawing I wanted to create something that inspired me so taking inspiration from the great painter and sculptor Michelangelo and created a painting with a similar style to The Creation of Adam. I learned about hands and their structure for how I am supposed to draw them which was very helpful in learning the anatomy and structure of said hands. My goal for this piece was I intended to make the Apple a symbol of the ones above giving to the people, but full of greed and wrath. Their only desire is to take the gift and use it for a goal that isn't for the good of all. I enjoyed doing this project and liked its result but I could perhaps add more to the piece to create a story that is easier to tell just from one glance. So I hope that the audience can tell from the piece that the story I wanted to tell is their own.
In this piece I created two children constructed of patterns all from Japanese culture as they descended down a path that again is decorated in patterns from Japanese culture. I learned how to create patterns and cut and fill spaces with said patterns as well as creating something that was significant to me through another culture that isn't my own as I'm not Japanese but Vietnamese. My goal was to be able to create a story about two children who are of a different background from most, although having to be a part of their culture should not be burdened by it but rather accept and love who they are. For it's easy to lose oneself when on a long winding road if you don't know exactly what lies beyond it. Although not my most proud work as I wish to fix the background and not make it look like it's all paper mache I'm proud of the characters that I was able to create in the process of making this piece. I hope that the point of being able to be proud and accept one's culture can get across because although we discuss it everyday, do we really know how it feels to be someone else without walking down their road first?
For this artwork I created a Red Panda dressed in attire similar to how Sailor Moon does when she does her Magical Girl Transformation. As I wanted it to represent a piece of pop culture that was enjoyable to draw and create for and it was a really fun way with experimenting with colors. I learned about the presence of values in a characters attire and how colors really do affect the outlook of a piece of art, and the ability to make bubbles which I'm very proud to know now. I just wanted to create something fun and cute that I was amused by, and also showed that I could create something creative that wasn't only just a Red Panda to begin with, but also another side of me. This was a very fun piece to create and I had lots of fun with the hurdles of how I could make it work, and the colors of a red panda being able to blend in with the mystical magical colors of Sailor Moon. I want my audience to see that this piece isn't just about a red panda but a little dive in the pop culture of Asia and although both subjects aren't related can still go together to create something cool and fun!
Taking inspiration from the game Genshin Impact I wanted to create a landscape using watercolor about some of the land's flora that shines into your eyes where you have to run over and grab it. I learned that watercolor is a very hard type of paint to use and that although it can be delicate can leave a stain in your paper if the paint is wet enough, even though it was all digital. So although a fun challenge, I don't think you and Watercolor are on the polar opposite ends of a dry and wet sheet of paper. In all honestly this game has inspired me a lot to the point where I want to draw something from it all the time, as the creativity, colors, and stories that can be told just from drawing art for the game are practically limitless. So being able to finally create something that aligned with my goal was a very fun project I didn't want to mess up. I very much enjoy the end product of what I have created, and of course, can be changed and edited into oblivion to create the "perfect" piece, it's a piece of art that just makes me smile being able to know that others people can see it as it's something I'm proud to call mine even though I still have a way to go in learning all about the in and outs of being an artist. I hope that when my audience looks at this piece they can see, hear, and feel the calming radiance of the peaceful and warm mountaintops from the Land of Liyue.
