DESIGN-DEVELOP-BUILD: REIMAGINING THE COLLEGE OF DESIGN 1ST FLOOR ATRIUM SPACE FALL 2024 - FOURTH YEAR STUDIO - INSTRUCTOR: DANIEL BAERLECKEN

STUDIO OVERVIEW

This Senior design studio focuses on a design-build project, challenging students to reimagine and redesign the atrium space within the College of Design. The project emphasizes the exploration and application of materials, assemblies, digital design tools, and digital fabrication techniques, with a keen focus on crafting an interior space that embodies a compelling atmosphere, balanced use of color, textures, strategic lighting, and adaptability.

The redesigned atrium space should fulfill the following objectives:

  • The functional requirements will be developed during the conceptual design phase, but they are likely to include:
  • Review/Pin-Up Space: Designated areas with ample wall space and potential for movable partitions to accommodate the presentation and critique of student work.
  • Flexible Gathering Space: Open, reconfigurable areas that can support various types of gatherings, from informal meetings to large events.
  • Gallery Space: Specific zones equipped with appropriate lighting and display systems to showcase art and design projects.
  • Coffee Shop: A small, well-integrated coffee shop, including seating and essential amenities, designed to foster interaction and relaxation.
