PRINCIPAL’S COLUMN

Relieving Principals

Many thanks to Mrs Rosser and Mr Borg for doing an outstanding job in the above role during my absence at the start of this term.

Parent Teacher Night

A reminder that tomorrow’s parent teacher night is for all students, and is particularly important to parents of Year 12 students after the completion of their Trial HSC exams.

Stage 6 Subject Selection for Year 11 2026

Tomorrow is our Stage 6 Pathways Day for all Year 10 students, explaining school, NESA and ATAR requirements for senior study . This is a very important day for all Year 10 students planning to return for Year 11 in 2026. This will be followed by our Subject Selection Expo Day next Monday (1 September) giving them access to experts in all the courses we deliver in Years 11 and 12 (Stage 6). Online subject selection for Year 11 2026 will then be open from next Monday 1 September and will close Friday 5 September. Students will be individually interviewed about their subject choices in Week 8 (8 to 12 September) – parents/carers will need to sign off on selected subjects prior to these interviews.

School Captains 2026

Many thanks to Mr Borg and Mrs Wright for coordinating School Captain 2026 candidate interviews in my absence. I am told we have a very impressive set of candidates who will be busily campaigning for votes in the lead up to election day next Tuesday, 2 September. Good luck to all.

Sport Attendance

A reminder that Sport is a compulsory part of the school’s curriculum from Years 7 to 10. It is not the time for doctor/dentist/other medical specialist appointments.

Wishing all of our school community a great week.

2025 Big Science Competition Results

Congratulations to Malibu Dewar, Year 8, who received a Distinction in the 2025 Big Science Competition (BSC). Malibu has been invited to participate in the Australian Science Innovations Curious Minds program for girls in STEM. In 2026 she will be participating in an eight-month hands-on extension and mentoring program that includes a STEM camp. We wish Malibu all the best in this amazing opportunity.

We also congratulate the following Year 7 and Year 8 students who received a Credit for the BSC:

Max Bachmann, Ivy Cossio, Phoenix Greene, Dylan Porter, Quincy Thornton, Xavier Crane, Lawson McIntosh, Edith Plummer, Hayden Tewes, Zac Warburton and Asha Wood

Certificates were proudly presented to all BSC participants at the recent year group assemblies. While most students were able to collect their certificates then, a few were unfortunately absent and will receive theirs soon.

The Big Science Competition forms part of the extra-curricular offerings for Stage 4 Pinnacle Program students and is also open to all students from Years 7 to 10. We encourage all students to consider participating in this enriching opportunity in future years.

Visual Arts

Year 9 & 10 elective Visual Arts students are currently studying portraiture, and on Wednesday the 13 August they had the opportunity to visit the Lismore Regional Gallery for the 2024 Archibald Portraiture Prize regional tour.

This was a great opportunity for students to see a range of ways artists can capture and represent their subjects in a visual way and no doubt has inspired these students to apply some of these techniques in their own art making.

SRC Leads the Way in Promoting Kindness and Courage During ‘Bullying No Way’ Week

In Week 4, our Student Representative Council (SRC), in collaboration with the Wellbeing Team and Student Support Officer Cas Skinner, showcased incredible leadership and spirit by organising a series of engaging activities to raise awareness for the ‘Bullying No Way – Be Bold, Be Kind, Speak Up’ campaign. The SRC’s efforts included a lively ping pong competition to encourage students to be bold, a Pancake Day and raffles to promote kindness, and a mufti day where students dressed as members of a team or as upstanders to highlight the importance of speaking up against bullying.

A special thank you goes to our school canteen for generously supporting these initiatives with delicious cupcakes and canteen voucher donations, adding an extra touch of joy to the week. Congratulations to our raffle winners, Ruby Dean and Jett Hand!

This vibrant week of activities not only demonstrated our SRC’s commitment to building a positive school culture but also inspired students to support one another with kindness and courage.

Looking ahead, we invite everyone to participate in this week’s awareness event — Wear It Purple Day — taking place on Friday, 29 August. Wear It Purple Day is an annual Australian-founded event dedicated to supporting LGBTIQIA+ young people and fostering inclusive, welcoming environments. By wearing purple clothing or accessories, we send a powerful message that young people are seen, valued, and have the right to be proud of who they are, especially as they often face higher rates of bullying and mental health challenges.

We encourage all students to embrace this opportunity to show their support for our LGBTIQIA+ community and continue building a school culture grounded in respect, inclusion, and kindness.
