SEED eLearning Action Plan 2023-24

At the start of each year, the eLearning Team* agree 'key deliverable' project work to support the School in addition to the standard support we provide throughout the year.

These are some of the key deliverables:

  • AI Literacy and Pedagogy - training and support
  • Learning Design support for new SEED units
  • Sharing Good Practice: Focus on Digital Learning Week

*in agreement with AD of Teaching & Learning, Distance and eLearning and Director of Teaching and Learning.

AI Guidance

The University has now issued formal teaching guidance on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in teaching and learning. Note that Schools may approve a broader or narrower use of these tools for specific course units or assignments. Associated library guidance is also available.

We welcome comments on Generative AI through the Teaching Innovation Collective padlet:

Evaluating our Digital Experience through a 3 year pilot of the Jisc Insights surveys

TLSG have supported a 3 year pilot implementation of the Jisc Digital Experience Insights surveys providing information to understand and take steps to enhance the student and staff digital experience at the University of Manchester. This was a collaborative proposal, led by the Technology and Digital skills FLP workstreams with the Student Survey group, Directorate for Student Experience, Digital Learning, The Library and Organisational Development. There will be 3 surveys for 23/24: for Students; Professional Service staff and Teaching staff. Each of the surveys focuses on four key themes; ‘you and your technology, technology at your organisation, technology in your learning, teaching, research or role and developing your digital skills’ and aims to provide powerful data on how students, teaching and PS staff and researchers are using technology. More information will follow ahead of the planned launch later this Semester.

New staff development workshops - using Teams and OneNote Class notebook for teaching

With thanks to Hamza Badenjiki, Learning Technologist with the HUM-AMBS elearning team and University Microsoft 365 Digital champion, interactive sessions on ‘MS Teams as a supportive learning environment’ (1stNovember) and ‘MS Teams for collaboration using OneNote Class Notebook’ (8th November) are being offered to support staff involved in curriculum design and delivery. These sessions support the following digital capabilities from Jisc’s Building Digital Capability Framework: Digital productivity, Digital creation, Digital learning and teaching and Digital communication, collaboration and participation. For further information and to book, please see the ITL workshop programme / University Training Catalogue. Due to the interactive nature these workshops will have a limited capacity, but with demand, will be delivered again during Semester 2.

SEED eLearning Report 2022-23

Please take a look at our report from the past year:

Contacting the eLearning Team

Whether you’re looking for support with Blackboard, other tools or more bespoke 1-1 support with learning design, we are here to help.

Just a reminder to log issues and requests via the Support Portal, rather than emailing the eLearning email address. These requests come straight through to the eLearning Team and someone will be on hand to respond. Emails that are sent directly are held in IT's triage queue and there can often be a long delay until we receive them.

Zoom drop ins - open Monday-Friday 10 am - 4pm, no booking required. Get quick responses to questions and have one of the team look over your problem with you.

1-1 Consultations - book a one hour training session with an experienced Learning Technologist. This service is currently prioritised for new academic and PS staff.
