Stories Come Alive in the Classroom
Building Reading Fluency Through Reader’s Theater
Middle school students in Ms. Kalin’s AIS class, with support from Ms. Koornstra, recently brought the story “Loki and the Magic Hammer” to life through Reader’s Theater.
As part of their literacy work, students practiced reading fluency by rehearsing their lines multiple times, with scripts written at varying reading levels so everyone could participate confidently. The result was a classroom filled with expressive voices, creative energy, and a lot of laughter.
Students went beyond the script by designing and using their own props to enhance their performance -- from Norse gods to magical adventures, their creativity truly shone.
Reader’s Theater provides an engaging way for students to strengthen reading skills, build confidence, and discover the joy of storytelling in action.
Thank you, Ms. Kalin, for bringing stories to life!
