Women's Tennis 2026 Season Preview

2024-25 Recap

The University of Scranton women’s tennis team captured the 2025 Landmark Conference Championship with a 4-2 victory over Moravian University. The win was Scranton’s first conference title since 2018 and secured the Royals an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships.

Scranton claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Senior Daniella Wisniewski and freshman Erin O’Mara teamed up for a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while senior Julia Nocentino and sophomore Kyleigh McNulty delivered a strong 6-2 win at the No. 3 position to give the Royals early momentum.

In singles play, Scranton earned three key victories to clinch the championship. Senior Mayjah Jean-Pierre set the tone at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set win. Junior Paige Hunt followed with a 7-6, 6-2 triumph at No. 5. Sophomore Gisele Falzone sealed the match for the Royals with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2, earning Conference Championship MVP honors for her standout performance.

The 2026 Landmark Conference women’s tennis season is shaping up to be competitive race, with Moravian earning the top spot in the preseason coaches’ poll. The Greyhounds collected 75 points and four first-place votes, narrowly edging out Scranton, which sits close behind with 72 points and three first-place votes. Catholic is also firmly in the title conversation, receiving three first-place votes and 67 points to round out a tightly contested top three.

Drew (54 points) and Goucher (52 points) are positioned in the middle of the pack and will look to push into postseason contention. Juniata (39 points) and Wilkes (38 points) follow closely, separated by just one point as both programs aim to move up the standings. Susquehanna (26 points) slots in at eighth, while Elizabethtown (18 points) and Lycoming (9 points) complete the poll and will look to outperform their preseason projections as conference play gets underway.

Catholic University

Head Coach: Nate Farlow (4th Season) 2024-25 Record: 13-8 (6-3 Landmark Conference) 2026 Ranking: 3rd

Catholic University looks to raise the level of play this spring after posting a 3–3 record during the fall season. Shloka Tambat, Ava Niggemeier, Ella Knox, and Mairead O’Hara highlight the team’s key returners. Tambat returns after a standout 2024–25 season, earning Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors in both singles and doubles. O’Hara also brings First Team doubles experience, while Knox was named Honorable Mention in singles and doubles, and Niggemeier earned Honorable Mention in doubles. The Cardinals open their spring campaign on February 14th at Washington College, looking to build on last year’s momentum after advancing to the conference semifinal round.

Drew University

Head Coach: Geoffrey Diehl (2nd Season) 2024-25 Record: 10-10 (6-3 Landmark Conference) 2026 Ranking: 4th

The Rangers will turn to an experienced core of players this spring, including senior Natalia Zamora, who was named to the All-Landmark Conference Honorable Mention Team in singles two years ago. Juniors Danielle Pettoni and Riley Roesel also return as starters over the past two seasons, while Kapriana Payami and Madison Williams are back from last year's squad as well. Six newcomers will also look to make their mark for Drew this spring. The Rangers will look to replace key graduates Mary Kalorin, a four-time All-Landmark First Team selection in singles and doubles; Sophie Weaver (First Team doubles, Second Team singles); Jada Worthem; and Elise Parisi.

Elizabethtown College

Head Coach: Michael Anderson (9th Season) 2024-25 Record: 3-9 (1-8 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 9th

Haley Bishop and Hannah Walker lead the Elizabethtown women’s tennis team as key returners. Bishop returns as the team’s top singles and doubles player, while Walker will contribute at #3 doubles and #5 singles. The Blue Jays will look to replace the loss of Adriana Burmeister, who competed at #2 doubles and #3 singles last season.

Goucher College

Head Coach: Debbie Holtschneider (2nd Season) 2024-25 Record: 11-8 (7-2 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 5th

Goucher returns three players who earned All-Conference honors last year. Lucy Ingraham earned Second Team All-Conference honors in doubles, while Natalia Navarro was named Second Team in both singles and doubles. Meline Siggen also secured Second Team recognition in singles, giving the Gophers a decorated core to lead the way this spring. The Gophers will open their spring campaign on February 15th at Salisbury, facing a strong early-season test to kick off the year.

Juniata College

Head Coach: Eric Gibson (1st Year) 2024-25 Record: 6-7 (4-5 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 6th

Juniata looks to build on last season’s trip to the first round of the conference playoffs as it enters the spring portion of the schedule. Medina Yessenaliyeva, the 2024 Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-Landmark selection, returns along with Celia Navarro de Torres, who earned Second Team doubles honors and an honorable mention nod at singles.   With that foundation in place, the Eagles will look to continue progressing when they open the spring season on March 3rd against Penn State–Altoona.

Lycoming College

Head Coach: Joel Reid (4th Season) 2024-25 Record: 8-9 (0-9 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 10th

Emma Kelchner, Sadie Stahl, Greta Kimble, and Cassie Connor highlight the Lycoming women’s tennis returners, competing at positions No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6, respectively. The Warriors will look to replace Rei Saar and Sarah Lanphear, who competed at No. 1 and No. 3 last season. Lycoming opens its spring season on March 20 with a road trip to Houghton.

Moravian University

Head Coach: Mariana Freitas (5th Season) 2024-25 Record: 17-4 (9-0 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 1st

The Greyhounds, coming off a conference runner-up finish, have carried that momentum into the new season with a 3–0 overall start and a 1–0 mark in conference play. Jenna Gower, Sydney Shifman, Izzy Szmodis, and Leah Zolotareva lead the Moravian women’s tennis team as key returners. Zolotareva was the 2024–25 Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors in both singles and doubles, while Szmodis also earned First Team recognition in singles and doubles. Shifman returns after a Second Team singles selection, and Gower adds depth to the lineup. The Greyhounds will look to replace Ali Willis, an Honorable Mention in singles and doubles, and Nicole Kalorin, an Honorable Mention in doubles.

University of Scranton

Head Coach: Janice Winslow (12th Season) 2024-25 Record: 11-10 (7-2 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 2nd

The Royals return as the 2025 Landmark Conference champions after defeating top-seeded Moravian, 4–2, to claim the title and the program’s first conference crown since 2018. Erin O’Mara and Gisele Falzone return to lead the Royals. O’Mara was a Second Team All-Conference selection in doubles, while Falzone earned Landmark Championship MVP honors. The Royals will, however, need to replace key contributors from last season, including Mayjah Jean-Pierre, a First Team All-Conference selection at No. 1 singles, and Daniella Wisniewski, a Second Team All-Conference honoree in doubles, both of whom graduated last year.

Susquehanna University

Head Coach: Bob Jordan (32nd Season) 2024-25 Record: 5-9 (2-7 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 8th

The Susquehanna women’s tennis team competed in seven matches this fall, going 3-4 with wins over Elizabethtown, Misericordia, and Penn College. Claire Gallagher led the team in singles victories with four wins at the No. 5 spot, while Mackenzie Romig played primarily at No. 1 singles. Kaiya Reisinger, Amelia Maguire, and Nanci Major contributed in the No. 2, 3, and 4 positions, respectively. The River Hawks will get a boost from the return of Alexa Wanamaker, who studied abroad in the fall and was the team’s No. 1 singles player in 2024–25. Much of the doubles lineup returns, including the tandem of Romig and Wanamaker at No. 1, Maguire and Macey DiBastiani at No. 2–3, and Reisinger and Gallagher also at No. 2–3.

Wilkes University

Head Coach: Scott Veith (2nd Season) 2024-25 Record: 8-9 (3-6 Landmark Conference)  2026 Ranking: 7th

Kensington Edmond, Julia Spaeth, Isabel Schreffler, and Ava Vacula lead the Wilkes women’s tennis team as key returners. The Colonels will look to replace Tea Amerise, a Second Team singles selection last season, and Sydney Farmer. Wilkes will open their spring slate with a trip to Hilton Head, S.C., playing Shawnee State, Dubuque, and Roanoke from March 1–6.
