PRINCIPAL’S COLUMN

Good Luck Year 12 2025

The Kingscliff High School community are thinking of Year 12 and wishing them all the very best as they work their way through final HSC examinations. Last week students sat English Papers 1 and 2, along with Music. This week the focus will be on Maths, Modern and Ancient History, Biology and Design and Technology.

Keep rowing Year 12, the end is in sight.

Big Picture Year 12 Graduation Exhibitions

Congratulations to our first Year 12 Big Picture students to complete this credential at Kingscliff High School. Three students will be moving to full time University study next year, having already completed one course each this year (all achieving Distinctions). Three other students will be moving on to TAFE, while the remaining three will be moving directly into employment, all aligned with their Big Picture learning.

This week, all Year 12 Big Picture students will be presenting their Graduation Exhibitions in our Library, reflecting learning journeys through bio medical science, engineering, film and photography, fashion and business, nursing and electrotechnology. Learning has taken place at Kingscliff High School, in our community, further afield in NSW and interstate and as far afield as France and Germany.

Well done to all of our Year 12 Big Picture students.

Year 11 (Year 12 2026)

Last week students were issued with a copy of the Year 12 2026 HSC Assessment Overview.

This document, along with the HSC Assessment Handbook 2026, provides essential information regarding assessment requirements and key dates.

  • The HSC Assessment Overview outlines the schedule for all assessment tasks.
  • The HSC Assessment Handbook details school rules and policies related to assessments, including task specifics for each course and requirements set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).

Students are encouraged to regularly consult these documents to ensure they meet all course requirements.

Both documents are available on our school website at:

https://kingscliff-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/assessment-/year-12/hsc-assessment-guidelines.html

On a related note, our Stage 6 Coordinator, Mr Smith, explained to Year 11 the process of “dropping” one Preliminary Course subject to meet the minimum HSC requirement of five subjects. In the event that students make this choice, they will need to meet with Mr Smith and Mr Ella to ensure this does not impact on their eligibility for the HSC.

In the meantime, Year 11 have the opportunity to reflect on their journey so far, connect with their peers and “re set” for their HSC courses which they have begun this term over the first three days of this week during the three day Senior Retreat at Tyalgum Ridge. Many thanks to Mr Matthias and Mrs Levi for their organisation.

Trial Change for Wednesday Sport

Last week saw our first Wednesday Sport conducted in the morning, beginning after Homeroom at 8:55 and concluding at 10:35, followed by Recess. The intention is to avoid the hottest part of the day, enabling a safer environment for students to enjoy their Sport. This proved to be particularly the case last week for our surfers who benefitted from more consistent conditions.

We will continue to evaluate this change to Sport time for the remainder of this term.

Years 9 & 10 Exams

These are fast approaching, starting from Monday 3rd November (Week 4). Students should consult with their teachers on how best to prepare.

Tweed Shire Council Sustainability Awards

Congratulations to Mr Wiggins, who, along with Ms Edwards from Bogangar Public School, coordinate the Coastal Academy of STEM Excellence which regularly provides exceptional STEM learning opportunities for students from Kingscliff High School and our partner primary schools which make up the Coastal Learning Community.

Mr Wiggins and Ms Edwards won the Education Division of the above award last week for their ongoing work in promoting STEM learning across our community of schools through strong partnerships with local government, industry, universities and community groups.

This thoroughly deserved award reflects our school’s growing reputation as a centre for STEM learning. Many thanks Mr Wiggins and Ms Edwards.

Wishing all of our school community a great week.

GENERAL NEWS

YEAR 12 2025 GRADUATION ASSEMBLY – 26 SEPTEMBER 2025

Celebrating our Year 12 Graduates

On Friday 26 September 2025, we celebrated our Year 12 graduates with their Graduation Assembly.

A message from the Deputy Principal, Mrs Rosser:

Year 12 — You Did It! What an incredible journey it’s been. This amazing group has grown into smart, funny, kind, and caring young adults — and I couldn’t be prouder. Being their Deputy Principal has honestly been the best part of my job since I started at Kingscliff High. One of my favourite memories will always be their Year 10 Tamworth camp. Five days (and a seven-hour bus ride each way!) brought everyone closer together — students, staff, and classmates who may never have spoken before. This year group has been “all in” from day one — through camps, Wet’n’Wild trips, carnivals, fundraising events, and everything in between. They’ve also left their mark as seniors — designing the new study space (even if they did try to kick Year 11 out at first!) and helping choose the new lockers. Class of 2025 — go chase big things, take risks and build a life that you love living in.... and never forget where you came from. You’ll always be Kingy a kid.

A message from the Year Adviser, Mr Ella:

It’s been an absolute honour and privilege to walk alongside our Year 12 students through their high school journey. From visiting them in primary school to watching them grow into the incredible young people they are today, this group has shown resilience, spirit, and genuine care for one another. Their final weeks have truly captured what makes them special — from Splashin’ and sunrise meetups to paintball and creative activities, they came together as one, celebrating each other for who they are. Year 12, you have left a lasting mark on Kingscliff High. I couldn’t be prouder of the people you’ve become. As you move into the next chapter, remember: there’s only one you — and the best is yet to come.

To the graduating Class of 2025, congratulations on this milestone and best of luck for your HSC Exams!

A special thank you to:

  • Our incoming School Captains Archie Allsopp and Phoenix Preston for chairing the Graduation Assembly

Koori Knockout

More than 35,000 players, officials, volunteers and spectators gathered in Tamworth for the 53rd Annual Koori Knockout. Now featuring over 175 teams, the carnival continues to grow each year, playing a vital role in celebrating Aboriginal culture and nurturing emerging talent.

While the Koori Knockout is first and foremost a football tournament, its significance to the Indigenous community runs much deeper. It serves as a powerful reunion for First Nations people, particularly those from rural and remote areas, fostering connection, pride, and cultural identity.

Many NRL stars have launched their careers at the Knockout and return each year to give back to the community and inspire the next generation. Players of all ages relish the opportunity to see their heroes, such as Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Jesse Ramien, Dane Gagai, and Josh Addo-Carr take the field.

This year, our Year 9 and 10 students: Kyhum Torrens, Marley Torrens, and Heath Morley proudly represented the Under 15s Boys Tabulam Turtle Divers, while Brayden McAndrew represented the Under 15s Boys Gumbaynggir Descendants Next Gen. Head Teacher Administration, Mr. Adam Reid, also had the honour of refereeing the Men’s Grand Final.

Big Picture Students Shine in UniStart Program

Three of our Big Picture students have achieved outstanding success in the UniStart program, a 15-week university preparation course offered by Southern Cross University to Year 11 and 12 students. UniStart introduces students to the world of academic inquiry, teaching key skills in critical thinking, research, academic writing, time management and information literacy.

All three students earned distinction results for their six assessment tasks, including a formal research project on topics such as the impact of social media on democracy and the use of health technology in Australia.

We are incredibly proud to announce that each of these students has since received an early university offer into their chosen field of study:

  • Lillie Mills — Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bronte Rylance — Bachelor of Biomedical Science
  • Archie Shipley — Bachelor of Engineering

This is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of their dedication, effort and passion for learning. Congratulations to Lillie, Bronte and Archie on this exciting step toward their futures!
