Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 20th December 2024

Wishing you all the best for the holidays

To all of our Parkside families, we send our very best wishes for Christmas and the new year. It has been a long and busy term so in amongst all of the festivities, try also to take some much-needed rest! We also know it can be a challenging & difficult time for some, for a variety of reasons, so however you are spending the break we hope that you simply enjoy time together. We look forward to seeing all of the children back on Tuesday 7th January 2025.

500 Words Success!

We were so proud to hear that Peyton in 2C has made it through to the next round of the BBC 500 Words competition. From tens of thousands of entries, her story has been shortlisted to the last 5,000 and will be considered in the second round of judging.

Click here to read her fantastic story. Good luck for the next round Peyton, you are definitely a winner in our eyes!

Pantomime Visits

We hope all of the children enjoyed their visits to the pantomime at the Junction. We were so pleased to be able to offer this experience to all of the children and are grateful to the Goole Windfarm Fund for the grant that enabled us to do so.

Christmas Performances & Carols

We hope you all enjoyed the Christmas performances and singalong carols. Thank you for coming and supporting the children. We would like to say a huge well done to all of the children across the school for performing and singing so brilliantly. It is always nerve wracking to stand up in front of a large audience so we are really proud of every child.

Mrs Kirkby and her team cooked a very impressive:

  • 390 turkey breast fillets
  • 280 pigs in blankets
  • 390 stuffing balls
  • 4kg sprouts
  • 6kg peas
  • 9.5kg carrots
  • 27.5kg potatoes

Well done to all!

Behaviour Policy

On our return to school in the New Year we will be introducing our new Behaviour Policy. Our new school rules will be We are Respectful, We are Safe and We Work Hard. Staff will be supporting children through assemblies and work as part of the curriculum to explore and understand these rules and how they can demonstrate them in school.

Our new policy is driven by continuing to build relationships with the children and families of our school population and focus’ on the importance of building relationships and working with children to develop social and emotional skills and to look to restore relationships when things have gone wrong. Golden Time is to be replaced by together time whereby every child will have the opportunity to take part in an activity at the end of the week with the adults in their class to share experiences and discuss anything that may be bothering them or have happened and give a positive end to the week. Consequences to inappropriate behaviour will be dealt with on the day with communication made to parents on a need to know basis depending on the seriousness of the event or in some cases if the frequency of incidents is becoming a concern.

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

See below for attendance over the last two weeks. The overall school attendance went up last week, so hopefully we will be ending the year strongly. Let's approach 2025 positively and ensure that children are in school, on time, learning and having fun!

Please remember that absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).
