Message from the Leadership Team

Dear Noadswood families, As we step into December, we are delighted to have kicked off the season with our wonderful Christmas Fayre. A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us—it was fantastic to see so many families enjoying the stalls, activities and atmosphere. I’m proud of our This is Me choir who truly shone, filling the hall with beautiful music, and our student helpers were so brilliant throughout the event. A special mention must go to Mrs Wyse, our school business manager, whose superb organisation made the entire Fayre fly. We are incredibly grateful for her hard work and dedication. As we were to those colleagues who came to help out serving drinks (and dancing along with the choir!) Mrs Wyse kept the community events wagon running with our first Christmas Wreath Making evening on Wednesday evening, and our thanks go to her for more collective festive fun, as well as to Jane Bidwell florists.

Other highlights of my week have included taking the choir on ‘tour’ to sing at both the Oakhaven Light up a Light Service on Monday evening and over to West Quay to sing in aid of Southampton Hospitals at the Christmas Wrapping Station. The Oakhaven event also included a belter duet from Hanna and Libby – we all loved it. The children give of themselves and their talents so freely and are a real joy to work with. They are a spread of singing experience and age groups and their energy makes them very special indeed.

I’ve also very much enjoyed delivering assemblies to Years 7-10 on the theme of the Advent season we have embarked on: recognising the joys that Christmas can bring us, whether we have any faith or none, whilst also recognising the pressures and the frenzy it can be. We’ve thought together about how best to stay present and to stay thoughtful about one another over the coming weeks. We would also like to reiterate how incredibly proud we are of our Year 11 students for the mature and focused way they have conducted themselves throughout their mock examinations. Some colleagues may be able to return mock papers and provide feedback before Christmas. However, we will be holding a formal results assembly in January, where students will receive a full printed breakdown of their grades to give them an authentic taste of their real results day. Please note that some mocks take longer to mark or are scheduled later, so certain departments will return papers and offer feedback in the new year instead. A reminder that Monday 8th December is an INSET day, and school will be closed to all students. Please add this date to your calendars. We would also like to remind you that on Friday 19th December, as usual we will be holding our end-of-term assemblies. On this day, the school will close at approximately 12:30pm (please note that celebrations may mean we finish just a few minutes later). The schedule for the day is as follows: 08:45 – 09:00 Tutor Time 09:00 – 09:45 Period 1 09:45 – 10:30 Period 2 10:30 – 10:45 Break Time 10:50 – 11:10  Year 7 Assembly 11:10 – 11:30  Year 8 Assembly 11:30 – 11:50 Year 9 Assembly  11:50 – 12:10 Year 10 Assembly  12:10 – 12:30 Year 11 Assembly If any families require their child to stay on site until 2:50pm, please email erollett@noadswood.hants.sch.uk Finally, at Noadswood, we value reading really highly, and we work hard to help every student become and remain a confident, enthusiastic reader.  Knowing that, as we approach Christmas, some families prefer to donate to charity rather than purchase traditional cards, we would be hugely grateful if you would take a look at our “Make Everyone a Reader This Christmas” list, created in partnership with Darling Reads, an independent bookshop:  https://darlingreadsbooks.com/collections/noadswood-school Through Darling Reads, families can purchase book vouchers that go directly towards new books for our school library—supporting all our students and enriching our reading community. If you have a book recommendation you’d love to see added to our library shelves, please share it with us using this short form:  https://forms.office.com/e/LueP3wwCeM Wishing everyone a decent weekend when we get there and looking forward to two more weeks of this term together, including many festive fun moments. Best wishes,   Kathryn Marshall and the Noadswood Leadership Team

Christmas Craft Fayre

Thank you to all the families who joined us on Saturday 29th November for our second craft fayre here at Noadswood. We had over 24 stalls, all who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to coming back next year. All funds raised on this day will go towards the Outdoor Library that the Student Voice group are currently working on. The ‘This is Me Choir’ sang their hearts out at the start of the event to get us all in the Christmas mood and sang again towards the end; they truly have wonderful voices.   For those of you who decorated a clay Christmas tree bauble, we will be in touch once they come back into school for you to collect.   Congratulations to Kate Price who was the winner of the Hamper that had been donated to the school by Exxon Mobile.

STRANGER SAGAS – Literacy Writing Competition

A strange noise... a normal day that gets turned upside down... a mystery waiting to be solved... What will our students write about?   Stranger Sagas invites our students to unleash their imagination by writing a mini saga, a story told in up to 100 words. The short format means every word counts.   Students can write in any genre and on any topic, so whether they write a thrilling mystery, a creepy encounter or a funny twist, the only limit is their imagination (...and the word limit).   Closing Date: Thursday 18th December 2025 The top 5 entries will receive a £100 Amazon gift card and trophy. The winning school will receive a £1000 Amazon gift card and an award.   For more information, please see the Young Writers website Stranger Sagas - a creative writing competition for 11-18 year olds | Young Writers  or watch the video for more inspiration: https://youtu.be/qpDH-eM8RYY   Please see Mrs Eldridge or Miss Dixon for an entry form and planning sheet.

Christmas in the Library The library is feeling festive with the launch of our Winter Bookmark Competition and the return of the Winter Raffle. Students will receive a raffle ticket for every book they borrow, giving them the chance to win chocolate prizes. We will also be entering every student who has been awarded a Noadswood Book Buck into a special Tutor Reading festive raffle, as a big well done for their enthusiasm in their morning reading. All winners will be announced during the final week of term.
