A Message from the Headteacher

As we come to the end of another busy and successful term at Birkwood, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and to wish you a very happy Easter Holiday.

As always, the children have made us incredibly proud with their enthusiasm and sparkling personalities. A special thank you to all of you who came along and joined in our events this week – it means so much to the children (and staff!) to have your support.

Yesterday, Mr. Summerfield welcomed beautiful twin girls into the world! I am sure that his hands are full already! In all seriousness, I congratulate him and his family on this most fantastic news. Everyone is healthy and I know that you will join me in sending love to them all and special wishes. The best news!

Friday 28th March saw our PINS Parent Group speak to other families and the Local Authority about our group at Birkwood. The showcase event was held at the Barnsley Metrodome and our group of parents, Megan Rose, Sarah Beckett, Katherine Cooper and Claire Turner did Birkwood proud (and the refreshments weren’t too bad either so Mr. Froggatt says). A massive thank you to everyone who has taken part in the PINS project.

Just a reminder too that our SEND/Additional Needs Family Group continues every 1st school Tuesday of every month at 1:30pm.

On, Wednesday we held our first ever Low Arousal SEND event. The event was the idea of the SEND Family Group and aimed at children who struggle with the sensory overload of the school disco. The event was a huge success with activities such as crafts, sensory opportunities, dancing – all with an Easter theme. Thank you to families and staff who helped out with this. We look to hold many more in the future. Please see the photos below.

The Rock Stars returned to Birkwood! Aaron & his bands provided some wonderful entertainment at our Easter Concert. The children captivated a very excitable audience as they showcased their Rock prowess! As ever, an absolute treat!

BINGO was again just brilliant – we are all massively indebted to our fundraising team who did another great job in organising this family event. It is wonderful to see ex pupils and extended family join us to assist in helping reduce visit costs. Brilliant work from everyone!

On the FIRST WEEK BACK – we have changes to our Lunch Menu, with the new Spring/Summer menu starting the week after. The new menus are below.

Barnsley's Public Health Team have issued the below leaflet, giving advice on how to improve the oral health of children.

An email was sent out earlier today to promote Barnsley healthy holiday clubs, community family activities and mental health support groups taking place for children, young people, and families this Easter Break. Plenty of cheap or free Easter Activities have been arranged to keep your child/ren entertained.

Just to remind you - the school class photos are taking place on our return to school - Friday 25th April.

As we head into the Easter break, I hope you all enjoy some well-deserved rest, family time, and of course, a few chocolate treats! School will reopen on Tuesday 22nd April and we’re already looking forward to a fun and exciting Summer Term ahead.

Wishing everybody a happy and peaceful break from school.
