The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team represents yet another program that has experienced significant change since the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season. After the team's season concluded early last season, it was announced in May that the team had been accepted as an associate member of the Northeast-10 Conference. Having competed in the Metropolitan Conference Swimming & Diving Championship for the last several years, the team will now have a Division II Conference Championship meet on their schedule for the first time in program history. The NE-10 Swimming & Diving Conference Championship is one of eight meets on the schedule for Swimming & Diving this year. Below is a brief look at the official NE-10 new release announcing CSI's associate membership in the conference along with a breakdown of the team's full schedule for the upcoming season and a list of returning individual record holders.
NORTHEAST-10 ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
With the addition of CSI, an institution located in Staten Island, N.Y., the NE10 will have seven institutions competing in Men's Swimming & Diving and eight institutions competing in Women's Swimming & Diving. With the departure of Le Moyne to the Division I Northeast Conference, the NE10's sponsorship in Swimming & Diving will remain the same with CSI's associate membership. "The NE10 is pleased to extend associate membership to the College of Staten Island in the sport of swimming & diving," said NE10 Commissioner Julie Ruppert. "We are happy to welcome the College of Staten Island to the Conference. This is a win-win situation for the NE10 and CSI, providing long-term stability to a valued sport for both the Conference and our institutions. We look forward to sharing the excellent student-athlete experience for which the NE10 is known to this new group of swimming & diving student-athletes at the College of Staten Island." CSI will be eligible to compete at the NE10 Swimming & Diving Championships beginning next year in 2024.
2023-2024 SCHEDULE
OCTOBER 14, 2023 VS FDU-FLORHAM AND MOUNT SAINT MARY
The Dolphins will open their season this Saturday when they host FDU-Florham and Mount Saint Mary College. Both are Division III programs that have an extensive history against the Dolphins dating back to the 2017 season. Both the men and women have gone 2-1 in three meets against the Devils losing in 2017 and winning the two most recent matchups. Against the Knights, the CSI men have won 4 of the 5 meets while the women have taken 3 of the 5 matchups with the Knights.
OCTOBER 20, 2023 VS ADELPHI AND HUNTER
CSI's history against the Panthers dates all the way back to the year 2000 when the two programs met for the first in on both the men's and women's side. However, the history of the Women's Swimming & Diving program against their former CUNYAC rival Hunter College dates back even further. The Dolphins and Hawks first met in the pool back in 1999, and the Hawks lead the all-time series 18-4. Against Adelphi, the CSI men have won 5 of the 14 meetings while the women have taken 2 of the 14 meets against the Panthers.
OCTOBER 28, 2023 @ SAINT PETER'S
As part of their membership in the NE-10, the Dolphins will get to face some new opponents that they have yet to face in the history of the Swimming & Diving program this year. However, the first of these new opponents will not be an NE-10 program as the Dolphins take on Division I Saint Peter's University on October 28, 2023. The Dolphins will join Manhattan College when they visit the Peacocks for what will be a big early-season test.
NOVEMBER 4, 2023 VS MONTCLAIR STATE AND FELICIAN
The Dolphins have a history against Montclair that spans five meets from 2016 through last season. When they face the Red Hawks this season, they will be looking for their first win against Montclair in program history. Similarly, when the CSI women compete against Felician for the second time during this same meet, they will also be looking for their first victory in program history over the Golden Falcons.
NOVEMBER 17-18, 2023 - CSI INVITE
The Dolphins will host the CSI Invite for the second time this season as they welcome in three other programs to compete across a two-day weekend meet that spans four sessions. Among the other teams competing last year were fellow ECC program Roberts Wesleyan University, NE-10 program the College of Saint Rose, and Mount Saint Mary College. The CSI men won the meet and were presented with a first-place banner on behalf of the East Coast Conference. In the women's meet, it was Roberts Wesleyan taking the top spot.
DECEMBER 2, 2023 @ SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
Among the three NE-10 programs the Dolphins will face this season is first-time opponent Southern Connecticut State. The Owls will be the second opponent that the Dolphins will see for the first time in addition to their late-October meet against Saint Peter's. A powerhouse in the conference, CSI will face a tough test against a team that is consistently in the mix for a conference championship each season. The meet will be the second of the year against NE-10 competition, and the first of two straight against conference opponents.
DECEMBER 16, 2023 @ PACE
The Dolphins have a history against Pace dating back to 2007 and have experienced varying levels of success against the Setters. The men have won 6 of the 9 meets against Pace including one draw. Most recently, the Dolphins scored a 23-point victory over the Setters last season following a one-point loss against them in 2021. The CSI women took the win their first meet against Pace back in 2007, but they are still looking for their first victory against the Setters since that matchup.
JANUARY 15, 2024 VS BARUCH
The Dolphins host their first meet of 2024 and final meet of the regular season against Baruch on January 15, 2024. The Bearcats will be the second of two CUNYAC opponents the Dolphins face in the pool this season, and both the men and women have matched up with the Bearcats 19 times. The men have won 13 of the 19 meetings while the women have won 6. Expect the Dolphins to celebrate Senior Day during this meet as well with this being the final home meet of the season.
FEBRUARY 8-11, 2024 @ NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONSHIP
The Dolphins will wrap up the season with their debut in the Northeast-10 Championship in February. The meet will allow the program to experience a new level of competition to conclude the season as the meet will be made up entirely of Division II programs. The meet will take place across four days beginning on February 8th and will continue all the way through February 11th. Southern Connecticut has recently been a major presence at the meet winning each of the last two championships on the men's side and three straight on the women's side.
