Paradox of Freedom Held & Bound

Paradox of Freedom - Held & Bound

This installation is built from clamps — tools made to steady, hold, and support. Yet in their very grip, they can also restrain, distort, and confine. Each clamp grips another, forming loops of dependence that echo the paradox of freedom: what secures us can also bind us.

The base rests on weathered wood, scarred with time, from which rises a painted yellow spine — a channel of balance and possibility. Along the structure, clamps appear in layers: some rusted and raw, marked by history, others painted in bold accents of blue, pink, gold, and silver, hinting at the interplay of opposing forces.

Clamped within is a framed photograph of the Milky Way — infinity itself, momentarily held in human tools. It is not captured, but placed in dialogue with weight and form. The work asks: does freedom lie in release, or in how we choose to hold?
