CNPS SCHOOL VISION: To build a community of curious, creative and engaged learners who are empowered to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world. Collectively we will work with our students to become responsible global citizens who have the skills, knowledge and personal attributes they need for their future.
As we come to the end of another vibrant term, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of our students, staff, and community. This term has been filled with exciting events that showcased the enthusiasm and talents of our students. From camps like Somers, Year 2 Sleep Over, and Year 4 & 5 camps, to excursions and incursions such as Body Safe, Basketball Clinics, LUME, Zoo trips, and Author Visits, our students have been actively engaged in learning beyond the classroom.
Whooping cough
Whooping cough cases are continuing to increase across Victoria, particularly among school-aged children.
Whooping cough is a very contagious infection, mostly spread through coughing or sneezing. Symptoms include:
- blocked or runny nose
- tiredness
- mild fever
- severe bouts of coughing, often followed by a ‘whooping’ sound on breathing.
Whooping cough can lead to life threatening infections in babies.
If your child is unwell, they should not attend school. Please see a doctor if you or your child develops whooping cough symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment will help reduce the spread of the infection.
Students diagnosed with whooping cough must not attend school
If your child is diagnosed with whooping cough, they must not attend school for 21 days after the onset of the cough, or until they have received 5 days of antibiotic treatment. You must notify the school if your child is diagnosed with whooping cough.
To further reduce the spread of infection to your child and the school community, the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 require that some students who were in the same classroom as a student diagnosed with whooping cough should not attend school.
Your child should not attend school for 14 days after they were last exposed to a person diagnosed with whooping cough, or until they have taken 5 days of a course of antibiotic treatment if they are:
- aged less than 7 years; and
- not fully vaccinated with 3 doses of whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine.
This exclusion is required by law – refer to the School exclusion table for primary schools and children’s services.
If your child is diagnosed with whooping cough, please contact the school to let us know.
More information
For more information about whooping cough, refer to Whooping cough on the Better Health Channel.
Vaccination is the best way to reduce the risk of whooping cough. The Department of Health recommends staying up to date with immunisations, including booster doses. A free booster dose of the pertussis vaccine is covered under the national immunisation program for students aged 12 to 13. If you are unsure about your child’s vaccination status for whooping cough, please discuss with an immunisation provider, such as your doctor.
We really appreciate your support in keeping our students safe and well.

Second Hand Uniforms Wanted
Have you outgrown the uniform you started with at the beginning of the year?! Growth spurt much? The CNPS Sustainability Group are excited to work with the CNPS P&F to bring back the 2nd Hand Uniform Stall! Our first step is to begin receiving donations of quality used uniforms again. The School Sustainability Captains will be collecting clothes the first Friday back at school in Term 4, the 11th. No set dates for the Stall just yet but we're kicking off with getting the donations back online first.
Please ensure all donated items are part of the official school uniform and in excellent 2nd hand condition, this is not a laundry or recycling service. No items with holes, rips, large stains or casual clothes. A great marker when choosing is if you would be happy to give those items to a friend’s child to wear to school.
Send your items to school on Friday the 11th the first week back and the Captains will collect from the classrooms! Happy wardrobe decluttering over the break!
Student Led Exhibitions
Foundation
This term we learned about report writing. We read about sea animals before writing our own report on a chosen one. Thanks to all the families who came and saw our books and posters before venturing into the depths of the ocean in our Guided Play room.
Grade 1
This Term the Grade Ones learnt about the power of animal adaptation. They each researched an animal of their choice creating an Information Report and a diorama.

Junior School Choir Excursion
On Monday 9th Sept our Junior School Choir journeyed to Turner Street Kinder to sing some songs. The choir had been working hard to perfect their performance and the level of excitement was very high. All the singers sang very well and Laura also played a beautiful piece on the piano. The preschoolers were very appreciative and even formed a guard of honour for the choir as they left! A big thanks goes out to the parent helpers who ensured the choir were safe on their walk. In term 4 we will return to sing for the other kinder group.
The O'Hea Street entrance is starting to take shape and is on schedule to be completed by the start of term 4. As you can see from the picture below it is going to look fantastic!
A big thank you to Hugo Mariott and Greg Foletta who volunteered their time to assist with the resurfacing of the AFL goals on the oval. Their help and hard work made a big job very manageable. Thank you!
Trivia Night wrap-up - CNPS went Pop!
Parents and Friends would like to say a big thank you to the 130 people who attended our trivia night on 14 September at Coburg West Bowling Club. The night, in combination with the online raffle, raised an outstanding total of around $5000 towards our fundraising goal for the year.
The theme this year was Pop and there were some amazing and hilarious outfits on display. It was a close-run contest but well done to Team Britney and Lady Gaga, Catherine Hunt, for winning best-dressed. Congratulations also to Carrie O’Shea, Lucy O’Mahoney and Kristy Abbott for their wins in the online raffle and to Team Pop Tarts Will Eat Itself for winning the Trivia competition on the night!
