Part 5 - Making A Bar Graph Holiday Special Assignment

Jurassic Park Media Franchise

This is Part 5 of a Data Collection and Analysis assignment in which you will use what you have learned so far about animation to collect and analyze data about the films in the Jurassic Park film franchise. Part 5 of this seven-part Holiday Special Assignment is similar to Part 4 in that you will create a bar graph to display information you have collected. The difference is that your bar graph will show the number of countries in which filming happened for the films. It will focus on the international filming locations.

Common Core Educational Standards (Science and Math)

In Part 5 of this assignment, students will analyze and evaluate the data collected about each of the films in the media franchise by using appropriate graphical methods.

Instructions

First, watch the video below titled “Where Do We Get Data? - Secondary Sources.”

Next, look at the table below. It shows the information collected in Part 2 of this assignment. According to the table, some of the films were shot in California, Hawaii, and Louisiana in the United States, and some of one of the films was shot in the United Kingdom (England).

For this part of the assignment, you should create a new table that shows the number of countries in which filming happened in each country and then create a bar graph based on the information in that table.

Wikipedia defines a film or movie director as a person who controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking in cooperation with the producer. Directors are necessary for films on all levels including feature films (like those in the Jurassic Park film franchise), cartoon films and shorts, television productions (drama and talk shows, newscasts, and sitcoms), music videos, and online films and featurettes. Directors need to be able to mediate differences in creative visions and stay within the budget. In addition to Steven Spielberg, other film directors you may know include Tyler Perry, Ava Duvernay, Jerry Bruckheimer, Francis Ford Coppola, George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Ron Howard, Spike Lee, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, and the late Penny Marshall.
