Headteacher's Message

Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope you and your families are keeping well?

The end of the academic year is fast approaching and we are busy preparing the new one, which begins on Tuesday 2nd September at 9.00am for our pupils. Can I remind you please that we finish this term at 3.15pm on Friday 18th July?

We have a number of school events planned to mark the end of the summer term which include;

  • July 3rd and 4th Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
  • July 11th Sports Afternoon at Longford Park
  • July 14th Class end of year Trips
  • July 16th End of Year Masses 9.30am (KS4/5) and 11.15am (KS3)

Congratualtions to the KS3 and KS4 boys who represented SJV in the regional football tournament at Everton FC on Wednesday this week. I'm informed they had a great time, played really well, won many games and most of all represented the school amazingly well. The feedback we had from the organisers was outstanding. Well done boys and Mr Wood and Mr Davies.

Today we said goodbye to pupils who are leaving SJV this year. We had a lovely leavers’ service this afternoon in the Chapel and refreshments afterwards which was sad, but had a real feel of celebration about it too. Many of the pupils who left today, have left behind a real legacy in school and we will really miss their personalities and the impact they had each day at SJV. We wish the pupils leaving and their families the very best for the next part of their journeys, hoping we will see them again soon, when they come back to visit us.

Additionally this week, we welcomed some of our new pupils into school. It is clear they will fit in very well and we hope they too will leave a positive impact on SJV in the forthcoming years. They will return for the next transition activity on the final day of term, when all pupils will move over to the new classes they will be in for September.

It continues to be a busy time for all in school and we appreciate, as always, your continued support. Should you have any concerns or worries please do contact us through the School Admin team.

Best wishes,

Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

  • Do not give children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
  • Do not give nuts, nut products or snacks/bars containing nuts for break time snacks.
  • Do not send cakes or food items, containing nuts, in to school for birthday celebrations, cake sales or events.

Highlights of the Week

Our Catholic School

Our spiritual focus in SJV this week is in God's message:

'Jesus is the bread of life for our families.'

-Pope Francis

It’s a bittersweet moment as we say goodbye to our leavers - something that never gets easier for us as staff. This week, we bid farewell to some of our Year 11 and Post-16 students as they leave our school community to begin the next exciting chapter of their lives. While we're proud to see them ready to move on, they will be greatly missed.

We were delighted to celebrate with parents, carers and friends at the end of the week. The leaving service, beautifully led by Father Nick followed by a celebration, was a touching and memorable way to mark the end of our time together at SJV.

This week, the chaplaincy team took time to reflect on the Leavers' Mass and were a great help in both preparing for and supporting the event. They continue to play an important role as we look ahead to our end-of-year Mass.

In RE, we've continued our exploration of world religions. Exploring different beliefs and religions is key to understanding the world around us. We've been examining the core values and shared principles across faiths, discovering just how much common ground we share.

Poetry Corner

This week we dedicate Poetry News to one of our greatest poets here at SJV. Very sadly Keenan leaves us today to move on in his educational journey, and we are certainly going to miss his passion and commitment to our culture of poetry, here at school. Over the last few years Keenan has contributed the most amazing poems in workshops, competitions, and importantly, to our first ever school poetry anthology. His powerful readings in Chapel and assembly have set a wonderful and inspiring example to our younger pupils, it has been a privilege to watch him grow in confidence and share poems at events with visitors, parents, and governors, even wowing the Bishop of Salford with his passionate readings. Keenan is truly one of our legacy poets here at SJV, and all though he leaves us today, his poems will live on here at school as a lasting source of inspiration to our younger writers and staff.

Thank you for sharing your voice Keenan, we wish you so much luck and happiness, and we know that your words will continue to make the world a better place.

Useful Information

Safe Chat: The Best Messaging Apps for Children

  • Messaging apps with GIFs, stickers, and games offer children a richer experience than traditional SMS.
  • There are several considerations when choosing the best messaging app for your child.

In the ever-evolving world of online communication, children today are all about the GIFs, stickers, and games that make messaging a richer and more exciting experience than traditional SMS. Group chats that transcend operating systems and sync across devices provide an inclusive space for communication, but to ensure safety, privacy, and age-appropriateness, deciphering the best fit for your child can be challenging with features such as disappearing chats, privacy controls, and end-to-end encryption.

Let's explore some of the more positive platform choices and identify riskier options.

Online Safety Workshop – Have Your Say!

Are you interested in joining us for an Online Safety Workshop? We are excited to be offering access to a virtual session, delivered in the evening, for all parents and carers.

To help us tailor the session to your needs, we’d love to know what you'd be most interested in learning about. Would you like more information about keeping your child safe online, understanding AI, or exploring current online trends?

Please look out for an email from us with a short form to complete and return. Your feedback will help us shape a workshop that is relevant and useful to you and your family.

The session will be delivered by an online safety expert with up-to-date knowledge and practical advice.

We look forward to hearing from you!

- Mrs J Griffin, Family Liaison Officer, Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
