Alumnus Helps Alma Mater Honor Veterans

Thank you to COL (Ret.) Shane Cuellar '97, who spoke at the Veteran's Day event on campus Nov. 11. During the ceremony, veterans who are graduating in December were recognized and presented with their stoles and cords.

Staff Council invited the campus community to sponsor a flag, in honor or memory of a member of the armed forces. These "Flags of Valor" were displayed along University Blvd.

Alumnus to Decorate White House, Again

Franco (pictured above, right) delivered the spirit of the season to the American Bank Center and Port of Corpus Christi last week. Now, he is in Washington, D.C., to expertly transform the People's House with holiday décor for a second year. Congrats Adrian!

President Vela Delivers State of the University Address

Javelina Nation celebrated the University’s momentum and honored Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp at the State of the University event Nov. 13.

Alumna Surprised with Found Dissertation

Dr. Mariana Esparza, '65, '81 stepped onto campus Oct. 30 to support her granddaughter, third-generation Javelina, Celeste Liguez at the 29th Annual McNair Research Symposium.

She had no idea she would be shown her original doctoral dissertation entitled The Impact of Adult Education on Mexican-American Women as well as presented with a bound copy.

Alumna Presents at Virtual Conference

Dr. Loreal Robertson '23 presented her dissertation research during the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) virtual conference on Nov. 7.

A graduate of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program, Dr. Robertson shared reflections, many similar to the participants of the study, of her own racialized experiences as a student and a professional. To learn more, follow Dr. Robertson on LinkedIn.

Javelina Tennis Awarded $7,000 Grant

Javelina Women's Tennis Head Coach Autumn Wollenzien (pictured top left, in gold) wants to bring the sport of tennis to the Kingsville community.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced Nov. 4 that the Javelina Tennis program will be awarded a $7,000 Collegiate Community Hub grant to defer the cost of operating a public facility.
