Dear Family in Christ,
As we enter our second month in our new venue and community, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve embarked upon together. It has truly been a magnificent experience, filled with opportunities for growth and service. I am profoundly grateful to God for our vibrant community and excited about the new possibilities that lie ahead. In our current sermon series, "Secrets of the Vine," based on John 15:1-11, we have been reminded that our Heavenly Father desires fruitfulness in our lives. This fruitfulness is rooted in our ability to abide in Jesus. To abide means to remain connected to Him through His Word, prayer, and fellowship with one another as a spiritual family. When we cultivate this intimate relationship with Jesus, we find that bearing fruit becomes a natural and effortless outcome.
As we stay connected to Jesus, we are not only protected but also empowered. We are grafted into His body and hidden within God's tower of prayer. The Father has made a significant investment in each of us, justifying us and bestowing upon us the righteousness of Jesus, along with the gift of His indwelling Holy Spirit. When we bear fruit as a reflection of this divine investment, the Father lovingly prunes us, enhancing both the quantity and quality of our fruitfulness.
Let us remember that the fruit of our lives is meant for those around us. As we share the goodness of God with our families, spiritual family, workplaces, and social circles, we plant seeds of hope and faith in their hearts. Together, let’s strive to bear fruit that glorifies God and reflects His love to our world.
May God's blessings and grace abound in your lives as we continue this journey together! In Christ’s love, - Ps. Sergé Solomons.
Our Strategic Focus Areas
Looking Back...
Each month, our Randburg church participates in a community outreach project called the Vrededorp Soup Kitchen. We go to Vrededorp to share lunch with local children. Our connect groups take turns each month, serving the kids a warm meal and spending quality time with them. This could involve activities like building puzzles, playing ball games in the park, or stacking Jenga blocks. Through these interactions, we aim to build connections with the children and share the love of Jesus.
The last Soup Kitchen event was held on August 5th, and we’re excited for our next one, which will take place on Sunday, September 1st. Danko (Thank you) - Nino Neels
On August 11th, we celebrated Women's Day at the beginning of the service. From the moment they walked through the doors, our women were greeted with a warm welcome. Each woman received a piece of chocolate, accompanied by a heartfelt message of encouragement and empowerment, setting the tone for a day filled with love and support.
The celebration began with a powerful time of worship, then we watched a moving spoken word video titled "What’s a Woman’s Worth," written and performed by Quina Aragon. This video powerfully touched on what the Bible says about the value of women and God's perspective on their worth. It was a beautiful reminder of how cherished and esteemed women are in the eyes of God.
Following the video, Pastor Serge shared a profound message with us. He took a moment to honor his wife, Pastor Viv, with words of celebration and appreciation, acknowledging her unwavering dedication and strength. Pastor Serge then delivered a representational letter of apology (which also referred to related scriptures) on behalf of all men to the women of our church, and he invited the men in the congregation to stand with him, coming into agreement with his words. This act of solidarity was quite impactful as it created space for healing and restoration for many women who may have faced trauma and offenses that have never been acknowledged before.
As we reflect on this Women's Day celebration, we are reminded of the power of community, the importance of honoring one another, and the transformative nature of forgiveness. May we carry the spirit of this day forward, continuing to celebrate the incredible women in our midst and striving to be a community that fosters love, understanding, and unity.
Also on August 11th, during our service, we took a moment to highlight and officially set in Pastor Marius Botha’s social ministry and to pray a blessing over him as he prepares to reach more lives, communities, and society at large. Pastor Marius took to the stage to share with us about his ministry, highlighting the work God has already begun through his Wisdom book and accompanying course.
As a church, we are deeply grateful for his dedication and the impact he has been set apart to make. We look forward with great expectation to the lives that will be touched and transformed through Pastor Marius’ ministry, trusting that God will continue to work powerfully through him.
On August 18th, we experienced an insightful and impactful service that was quite different from our usual gatherings. We were blessed to have two special guest speakers, Tendai Musikavanhu and Taryn Hinton, who joined Pastor Serge for an interview to discuss the important topics of faith and work, as well as work-life balance.
During the interview, Taryn Hinton emphasized a powerful truth: “What you’ve got to understand first is that our work is our worship and that all that we do is to give glory to the Lord, and that we are called to do our creative best in the place that God has called us.” This reminder encouraged us to view our daily tasks as acts of worship, aligning our efforts with God's purpose for our lives.
Tendai Musikavanhu also shared valuable insights, saying, “What I’m learning about all of this is that God measures success differently from how we do. We measure success by dollars and promotions; God measures success by the condition of the heart.” His words challenged us to rethink and change our perspective on success, focusing on our heart’s alignment with God’s will rather than worldly achievements.
This service was truly impactful, offering deep reflections on how we can integrate our faith into our work and maintain a healthy balance between our responsibilities. If you missed it or want to revisit the powerful messages shared, we invite you to watch the full interview on our YouTube channel. Watch the full interview here!
Wits Medical School is currently involved in a meaningful community engagement project as part of a course module. This initiative has seen them partner with the EN Joburg Foundation and its various projects, including Transformation Vrededorp, African Havens, and the Wellness Clinic.
As part of their hands-on learning experience, the medical students have been actively participating in a range of activities designed to benefit the community. Their work includes patient follow-ups, shadowing medical practitioners, and engaging in practical tasks that are both educational and impactful. One of the significant contributions they have made is cleaning up a local park, helping to improve the environment for residents. Additionally, they have been involved in interviewing patients and taking vital signs, providing essential support to the healthcare efforts in the area.
The students have two more visits planned for the community. During their final visit, they will undertake a project that will reflect the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout their engagement. This project will serve as a culmination of their experience, aiming to leave a lasting positive impact on the community they have been serving.
We at Transformation Vrededorp commend Wits Medical School and its students for their dedication and contributions. Their efforts are a testament to the power of community engagement and the importance of integrating practical experience with academic learning. - Nino Neels
