Celebrations!
Understanding the World
We will be looking at celebrations we like and are familiar with as well as making links to where in the world some celebrations come from/originate
In addition, we will continue to work on our friendships, sharing and taking turns.
We will continue our visits to Forest School—using our senses.

Communication and Language
We continue to learn to talk about ourselves in a positive way.
We will learn to listen to each other and our grown-ups in small groups and on our carpet.
We will listen to stories and sing lots of songs and we will learn some Christmas songs too.
We will learn lots of new words see our vocabulary list.
If you have a celebration you celebrate at home, whatever the time of year, please feel free to send in some information about it via Tapestry so we can discuss this as part of our small group work and circle times.
English
Reading: We continue to have a love of books in Early Years and this half term is no exception.
- We will be sharing our Core Texts, retelling them and talking about our favourite parts.
- We will use stories linked to celebrations.
- We will be discussing authors and their important role in our lives.
- We will be sorting fiction and non-fiction books.
Our Reading areas are cosy and the children will get chance to share some of the stories we have had already across Early Years as well a special themed shelf too.
Reception children will be voting for their favourite story out of two at our Story Voting Area.
Writing: We will be really encouraging our children to hold their pencils in a comfortable and effective way and ensuring they are using Tommy Thumb and Peter Pointer fingers to help. We will continue to enjoy Dough Disco and Squiggle whilst you Wiggle.
Reception children are working on writing simple CVC words to match pictures using their phonic knowledge.
Nursery will be exploring mark making in a variety of ways.
Phonics
Nursery children will be beginning to blend sounds in words in their play as well as listening for the first sound in things and trying to match them.
Reception children will continue to learn new phonemes and graphemes following the Little Wandle Phonic programme.
Reception children will be working on reading words by both sounding them out and blending and reading on sight.

Maths
In Nursery we will be concentrating on saying, recognising and counting numbers to 5.
- We will be sharing number rhymes.
- We will be playing with shapes, measures and early mathematical language.
- We will look for numbers in our environment.
In Reception we will continue to have maths activities and language in our play.
- We will be working on comparing numbers to 5.
- We will look at the composition of 4 and 5.
- We will be looking at circles and triangles.
How can I help?
This half term the children will be taking part in a sponsored Nursery rhyme singing session as part of World Nursery Rhyme week.
Look out for a sponsor form coming soon. We will use this money to buy new resources for the children to use.
We love to junk model! Please send in any cardboard boxes, tubes, pots etc NO egg boxes, NO nut product boxes, NO medication boxes.
Please ensure ALL uniform is named—this includes shoes.
Computing
E-Safety will play a big part of our introduction to computing in Early Years we will explore a range of stories explaining to us how we can we safe when we use iPads and computers.
Expressive Art and Design
This half term we will learn about Kandinsky and we will be exploring some of the techniques he used in our art work.
Physical Development
This half term we are learning to move around a space in a variety of ways
We will continue to use triangle to work on our Physical development, developing our climbing and balancing and strengthening our muscles.
Reception will continue to develop their skills in P.E as part of their sessions.

Religious Education
This half term we exploring a variety of different celebrations. We will be learning about who celebrates what and why. We will also be learning about traditions and cultures and what these celebrations look like. We will experience these celebrations through our play and opportunities during continuous provision. We will make links with our local community and ask our Archibald families to share their celebrations with the children in EYFS.
