Hello again, I must start with some great news – we have won another gardening award courtesy of Barnsley in Bloom. Not only this but Miss Greenwood was recognised as the Barnsley in Bloom Community Champion! Fantastic work all round and we send enormous congratulations to Miss Greenwood and our Gardening team – more to follow next week!

I must again thank everybody, especially Mrs. Birch for delivering a fantastic coffee morning that has hit the £200 barrier! £200 for Macmillan will be very gratefully received. This is superb work. 💚 💚 💚

Thank you to Mrs. Cocking for supervising school photograph day! This is always wonderfully chaotic yet such a special day for so many. I hope that you are delighted with the results!

On the results theme, Year 5 and 6 were victorious in the Handball last week. A sensational effort! Congratulations to them and Mr. Walton – a home win to boot! Sport is about physical benefits, mental health and making friends and memories. It’s lovely to win and I am delighted for everyone involved. Year 3 and 4 handball is taking place today in rather wet conditions; we’ll see what happens!

Years 5 & 6 received a visit from South Yorkshire Police who again delivered some super workshops around hate crime. Our 100% Respect value has been discussed and I am very proud of our Birkwood citizens.

In Year 2, we produced some amazing artwork with the theme of poppies! These shall be appearing at Barnsley Town Hall as part of their remembrance display. A brilliant initiative and one that means a lot to so many!

Year 1 have been exploring the local area – we were hosted by the local Premier. A lovely afternoon.

I have written to you regarding St. John’s Church and their Harvest Festival next week. A wonderful way to engage with Church and support those in need via its food bank. If you are able to donate something then this would be terrific.

SEND parents support meeting is on Tuesday next week at 1:30

Community sessions delivered by Grass Roots are available. They take place on Darfield Road; the darts has caught my attention! Give it a go.

A ‘heads up’ – DISCO tickets on sale from next week! Tuesday 21st October 4:30-6pm. Tickets £3 each and fancy dress is welcome.

Our after-school partner ‘Groots’ have plans for half term, please check the link if you may be interested.

I wish you all a fabulous weekend. Enjoy some family time and as always thank you so much for your support and everything that you do for our lovely children.
