What Is That Map Thing on the SFA Website's top Page? Well, as we say, we were Searching for Scruggs, and found a map.
We believe that this is at or near the location of the Scruggs store and railroad stop. We have deduced that the railroad tracks ran between the street and the telephone pole in the middle of this image from Google Street View.

Scruggs Station

Scruggs Township, Jefferson City Missouri

Scruggs, Missouri, was a small community 7 miles west of central Jefferson City, the state capital of Missouri. In 1882, the forerunner of the Missouri Pacific Railroad created the Lebanon Branch railroad line (or, to locals, the Bagnell Branch). John William Scruggs (1821-1900), son of James Albert Scruggs (1797-1876) and grandson of Henry Chandler Scruggs (1767-1850), ran a general store on his land in that community. The railroad chose that general store as the location of Scruggs Station along the Bagnell Branch. While the community (including the store) has disappeared, Scruggs Station Road is still well known in the area.

That station was surrounded by land that had been patented by various members of the Henry Chandler Scruggs family when they moved from Kentucky. There are 27 purchases of land by Scruggs in ranges 12 and 13 of township 44 in Missouri, involving different sections of land.

The earliest of these purchases was by John William's uncle, John Scruggs, (b. Virginia, 1794-d. Missouri, 1843), the eldest son of Henry Chandler Scruggs. Uncle John patented land in range 12 west on 1 July 1825. His brother Lewis patented land in that same area the next month. Eventually, the other living children of Henry Chandler Scruggs moved to the area, as well as Henry Chandler himself.
