Louisiana v. Callais The fight for fair maps continues on October 15, 2025

What's this case & what's at stake?

The right to vote is the cornerstone of American democracy and the Voting Rights Act (VRA) is one of our strongest tools for protecting it. It's been 60 years since the passage of the VRA, which marked a transformation in our pursuit of a multiracial democracy. Now set for its second Supreme Court argument this fall, the stakes behind LDF's case, Louisiana v. Callais, could not be higher. The case aims to overturn a congressional map where Black voters in Louisiana finally have an opportunity to elect candidates of their choice in more than one district by challenging the core of VRA anti-discrimination protections. This effort to weaken voters’ ability to remedy racially discriminatory maps is an affront to the communities who fought for generations to be heard at the ballot box.

  • The right to vote is the cornerstone of American democracy, and the VRA is one of our strongest tools for protecting it. Louisiana v. Callais is not just about the state of Louisiana. It is about whether communities of color across the country can have meaningful and fair representation.
  • Since 1965, the VRA has ensured fair representation for all Americans. But right now, those protections are under threat again—especially in places like Louisiana. On 10/15, @NAACP_LDF will be fighting to protect those very rights, and we must tune in!
  • Redistricting isn’t just politics—it determines if your vote counts. If maps are drawn unfairly, communities lose power. Louisiana v. Callais is about making our voices heard loud and clear.
