What's Echo Motions

Echo Motions is an animation producer whose goal is to spread awareness and understanding of mental struggles using animation. This includes anxiety, burnout, depression, and several other issues. Everyone experiences these to a varying degree but may not be aware of the emotions and impacts they cause. Echo Motions seeks to remedy this by using animations that visually depict the feelings associated with mental struggles in a way that resonates and expands understanding.

Why did I make this product?

Many people, including me, have struggled with emotions like these. The reason I created this product was to spread awareness uniquely and creatively. Animation is an amazing tool to not just visualize and give form to these emotions but also function as an engaging piece that can spark conversation. Explaining emotions to others isn't always easy, using visuals increases clarity and allows a more open conversation to be had when it comes to these serious and often complicated struggles, we all go through. The more we as a collective discuss and normalize these emotions, the less power they have over us and the more we can focus on supporting one another.

There are other animations that cover similar topics. This one is called, "Sinking Feeling," created by PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.

The value of this product comes from the unique approach, the visuals of the animation, the style, and the thought process. While the competition mainly uses narrative to express these issues, this one will be more abstract, using forms and shapes that are not as much of a narrative story, but rather a window into what these issues feel like through visualization. Most competition, especially storytime animation, is done from a personal perspective. In this product, the perspective isn’t just personal, and isn’t meant to be from a single point of view but is based on the point of view of several people in addition to experiences from an outside perspective. Using abstraction to do this, allows people to see a bit of themselves in the product and/or allows the viewer to see from an internal perspective of how these issues feel.

What was created

Echo Motions seeks to visualize the feelings and struggles that we all go through. This is not limited to just narrative-based ideas, but also abstract executions as well. The main character of this animation, Koe, is meant to act as a self-insert for the viewer. Simplicity makes up the foundation of our branding and visual strategy. This allows more focus to be on the cause, rather than creating complex visual elements. This also enables us to speed up the animation process while sustaining high quality. Everything from our type treatment to the design of Koe, our primary character, was designed with simplicity and viewer interpretation in mind.

Where to find us

The Primary marketing channels for Echo Motions will be online through social media. However, there are opportunities for more outside advertising in the form of billboards and selling merchandise. Considering the animations will live on YouTube, this is one place where ads would appear. In addition, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, and other forms where the topics of mental struggles are appropriate are also options we considered. The Hope would be through community and spreading our message people will take notice and share the animations across the internet and beyond.
