Vance Monaghan
Sandvik Coromant Leadership Award
Because of your support for NAIT and its staff and students, I have gained the skills and confidence to further my career more than I have ever planned. The education that I have received has allowed me to take the position of Lead Machinist at my shop and am being prepared to take over my shop as well as possibly a second shop, assuming all goes well. Your funding has allowed me to not only cover the costs of missed work but also acquire tools and equipment to start up a small subcontracting company, which very well might grow to require more of my permanent attention.

I would like to express my thanks for being chosen as a recipient of this award. I made an abrupt career shift this past year when an opportunity came up to apprentice as a machinist. Prior to this I had zero experience in a machine shop. Receiving this award has helped me know my efforts and commitments over the last 9 months have been worth it, and I am making good progress towards learning this trade.

I would like to thank you for your support in my journey of machining. I was really happy when I received the award. Every year I look at the Sandvik Coromant award recipients’ names posted in the machinist building and it was always one of my dreams to get my name on the list of top students. Also, I needed a laptop to learn Mastercam for my final year and I didn't have sufficient funds to afford one. However, I was able to get a laptop from the scholarship I received from Sandvik Coromant.
