Promoters' Questions

What will the show cost us to put on?

This will depend on the venue capacity and expected audience numbers. This may be around £500 and possibly a little more to accommodate travel costs, etc. A lower guaranteed fee against a 70/30 door split may also be possible.

When would you want to arrive at our venue to set up?

Normally around 3pm for an evening show.

Will we need to feed you?

We'd appreciate it if you could provide a light vegetarian meal at around 5pm if possible. eg. quiche, soup, sandwiches and drinks. An additional drink in the interval is always appreciated.

How long is your show?

A typical performance might start at 7.30pm and comprise two 50-minute sets with a 20-minute interval, finishing around 9.30pm.

How long does it take you to pack away afterwards?

Around 45 minutes.

Do you have all your own equipment?

Yes. We bring our own PA and piano (unless you have a decent house piano) and can also supply lights if necessary.

Will you want to play on our stage?

We prefer not to use a stage - given a choice - and instead set up on the long side of the room as this creates more of an intimate atmosphere and better connection with everyone equally.

What's the minimum playing area required?

2 x 3 meters.

What about seating?

Cabaret-style seating works best for us.

Do you need a dressing room?

Yes - we will need somewhere to change, however basic it may be.

Do you need power?

Yes - a power supply behind our playing area will be required.

So is it loud?

Not at all. It's an intimate show and we take great care to play at an appropriate volume level.

Do you do all your own announcements?

Yes we do, though we like you to introduce us at the start of each set. You can use our PA for that.

Can you help us with publicity?

Yes. You can email Al at a.gurr@icloud.com with all the relevant details (ticket prices, venue details, start time, etc) and we will design a snappy-looking flyer/poster from which you can make multiple copies. We can also help promote the show on social media.

What about programmes?

We don't normally bother but can provide you with the necessary info for you to put together your own.

Do you play requests?

Generally no, but we have occasionally had our arms twisted in the past!

How would you like to be paid?

Cash on the night would be appreciated, but a BACS transfer is also fine. We can provide you with bank details separately.

And if we cancel your performance beforehand?

We'd try to be sympathetic to your individual circumstances but would normally ask for 50% of our fee if you cancel within two months of our performance.

Will you be selling any merchandise?

Yes. We ask that you can provide a table for CDs and music books.

Will you expect us to provide complimentary tickets?

We don't normally ask for them, but if we do it would be a maximum of two tickets in total.

Is your equipment PAT tested?

Yes.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance?

Yes.
