Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
This week our F1 and F2 children had a special visit from the police. The children loved dressing up as police officers and learning all about the job of a police officer – as well as getting a turn in the police car! Next week they have a special visit planned from the fire service as well. They have loved learning all about different jobs in the community. If we have any parents who have an interesting job role that they would like to share, please do get in touch.
We have some fantastic sessions coming up for our Year 4 and Year 6 children with ‘Ramp It Up’, providing bike and scooter sessions for children. They will be visiting Year 4 on 17th October in school (in their PE session) and Year 6 will be visiting Kirk Balk on Wednesday 9th October to do a session there. Please ensure children have a coat, suitable footwear and preferably outdoor PE kits in school that day.
We would like to remind all parents and family members who are dropping off and picking up children to be polite and respectful on the playground to each other. We want to make West Meadows Primary School a safe and secure environment for everyone, especially our children. Please remember that there are lots of children listening and be aware of the language you are using and the appropriateness of conversations you are having on the playground. Moving forwards, if we believe any adults’ behaviour is inappropriate or does not follow our code of conduct, a letter will be sent regarding this and next steps. We want to all work together to make West Meadows a happy place for all. Many thanks for your help and support with this.
On Thursday 24th October, children can come to school for the day in Halloween costumes (or non school uniform if they would prefer). There will be a disco in school in the afternoon for all children (F2 to Year 6) and for F1 in the morning. There will be a tuck shop as part of the disco this year so children can bring money in to buy sweets if you would like them to (we recommend £1 but a maximum of £3 please). If you would like to help with running the tuck shop, we would love you to contact Mrs Maree.
We are having an increasing number of parents and older children from Kirk Balk asking to use the toilet at the start and end of the day, for example before pick up. As our only toilet is in Reception where there is access to the school, we are unfortunately not allowed to give access without supervision for safeguarding reasons. We understand that occasionally you may have a younger child with you that cannot wait but otherwise we would ask that you try to wait until you get home. We are unable to allow older siblings from Kirk Balk to come into school to use the toilet. Many thanks for your support with this.
A massive well done and congratulations goes to our catering team this week who had an inspection from Environmental Health and maintained their 5 Star Rating! Thank you for all of your hard work looking after our children at lunchtimes and maintaining such high standards.
Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.
