Welcome back! I hope that everyone has had the chance to enjoy the break – I have spotted lots of sun tans!
The final half term of the year is always an extremely busy time! This literally started from day one and there are lots of things to talk about and mention to you.
I think the headline has to be the Year Six trip to London. We attempt to provide some fantastic lifelong experiences that will live in the memory at Birkwood and this residential visit definitely takes that box! I am extremely grateful to the Governing Body for supporting our children in this opportunity and yet again the behaviour of the children and their attitude in London has done nothing other than fill us with great pride! Some incredible experiences that will never be forgotten – I must thank the staff who accompanied the children and enabled us to partake in such an exciting opportunity. I can't wait to talk to the children about it face to face
Back in Cudworth, we are delighted to welcome Miss Mallin back into her role. Everybody here has missed her greatly, especially the children. It is fantastic to see her resume her career at Birkwood.
Although the children had an extended break, the adults in school enjoyed an extremely informative reading training day on Monday. Miss Sabin leads our early reading offer with passion and no little skill. The children are making fabulous progress very early into their school career at Birkwood. Again, thank you to all the staff who work with our younger children and for the start they give them in their educational journey.
Year 4 have been preparing for their multiplication check. Some brilliant determination and the fact that they've worked extremely hard on their times tables will mean that they will achieve some very pleasing results. A great effort.
Sports Day is almost upon us and as always it is set to be a very exciting day in store at Dorothy Hyman stadium. Here is the key information.
Of course, the day is weather permitting and the reason we are slightly earlier this year is to enable us to arrange a substitute day in case the weather spoils our plans. Dare I say it, the long range forecast looks OK........
In school this week we have discussed the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Learning from history is something that we at Birkwood take opportunities to do. It is important to understand how events from the past can help us to live our lives today.
Returning to a sporting theme, the sports pitch and play area on the school field is on its way very soon. We took delivery of some of the extra equipment and we are all extremely excited for the development to be utilised by our children. I am hoping that this will be complete by the end of this month. This will signal the end of our extensive building work and improvements. I know that we are all excited and somewhat relieved. The facilities are fantastic and everything that our lovely children deserve.
