- This week, we welcome our Reading the Globe Program lecture for first year students with author Carmen Aguirre on Friday at noon at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.
- Also Friday, don’t miss the third in our Research and Sponsored Projects Fall Seminar Series with TAMIU’s Dr. Monica Mendez who will share news of her research on antimicrobial resistance in recycled irrigation water. That’s in the Academic Innovation Center (AIC) West Lobby at noon.
- And there’s something very finny coming about Cybersecurity Awareness...you might say something is in the OIT water....
- Get a better understanding of the challenges of dementia in a special presentation from our Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty and students this Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center.

TAMIU Reading the Globe Program to Host Lecture by Common Read Author Carmen Aguirre Oct. 4
TAMIU's Reading the Globe Program will host its annual lecture on Friday, Oct. 4, at noon in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The lecture will be given by this year's Fall 2024 Campus Common Read author, Carmen Aguirre, whose novel, Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter, was the selected Fall Campus Common Read for TAMIU first-year students.
Research and Sponsored Projects Fall Seminar Series Continues
Join us for the third lecture in the Research and Sponsored Projects Fall Seminar Series this Friday, October 4 at 12 noon in the Academic Innovation Center West Lobby featuring Dr. Monica Mendez who has received a Grant Award for $299,986 from the Department of Agriculture.

Upcoming Event Focuses on Dementia, Offered Saturday, Oct. 5
Offered through the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, "Understanding Dementia" is a workshop focusing on the impact of memory. The event is happening Saturday, Oct. 5 and is free and open to the public.

TSF Roadshow Returns to TAMIU with Free Performances of ‘Hamlet,’ and ‘Shakespeare's Greatest Hits’ Oct. 15 – 16
The iconic words of world-renowned playwright William Shakespeare will once again enchant audiences at TAMIU's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre.
Two back-to-back evening performances are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15, with a rendition of "Shakespeare's Greatest Hits," followed by the Bard's quintessential tale of tragedy, "Hamlet," on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
New TAMIU Lecture Series Features Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Rick Jervis, Acclaimed Author Norma E. Cantú
TAMIU will present two distinguished speakers this Fall as part of its new Border Voices Lecture Series, providing various audiences with enriching educational opportunities. Both events are sponsored by a generous grant from Humanities Texas and are free and open to the public.
The first Lecture Series event, “Capturing the Border Patrol Serial Killer,” features Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Rick Jervis on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for the Performing Arts Recital Hall.
