Class 11's Learning Journey! Spring 2

LIRA

In LIRA this term, we have been putting our comprehension skills to the text by reading a variety of texts. These included the History of the Circus, Climbing Everest and Beauty, the Guide Dog.

During our LIRA sessions, we focused on a range of different activities and questions. We enjoyed making predictions on what we thought the texts will be about.

Literacy

In Literacy this half term we wrote a biography about a person our our choice and a setting description based on The Eye of the Storm.

We have recapped and learnt lots of different skills. These include subordinating conjunctions and relative clauses. Along with gathering lots of high level emotive and descriptive language.

We have been trying extremely hard in our handwriting sessions and this is evident in our outcomes!

Maths

In maths, we have been recapping fractions, decimals and percentages, geometry and finally finishing off with statistics. We have focused on ensuring our arithmetic fluency is outstanding and some of us moved onto more reasoning style questions to further our understanding.

Design and Technology - Making a Cushion Cover

For this half term our focus has been Design and Technology, where have made a cushion cover. For this unit we have had to learn and recap new skills such as cross stitching and also learning how to do a running stitch.

We have also had the chance to design our cushions as well as evaluating our final design!

We can not wait to show them off in our DT showcasing event!

Science

Our focus for this half term has been plants.

We have learnt about the life cycle of different flowering plants. We then looked at how we can classify plants before moving onto conducting an experiment all about photosynthesis.

PE - Tag Rugby

This half term our focus has been on Tag Rugby. We have learnt and recapped lots of new skills, these included catching and passing a rugby ball. Along with dodging and running skills.

This half term, Class 11 were lucky enough to go the theatre to watch a performance of 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'.

It was a brilliant show and all children did themselves and Mapplewell proud with their fantastic behavior!
