Term 2 Week 7 Newsletter 2025

Principal Message

It’s been an action-packed few weeks at Kambora. Students have enjoyed a wide range of engaging and meaningful learning experiences that reflect the energy and community spirit of our school.

Our wheelchair sports workshops were a standout, offering students a hands-on opportunity to build teamwork and resilience while learning about inclusive sport. Weekly sports lessons have also continued to be a highlight, with students developing their skills across a variety of games and activities.

In the classroom, students have begun writing letters to their new pen pals at the Belrose Country Club Retirement Village. There has been a real buzz of excitement as they prepare to send off their first letters and look forward to seeing how they are received.

Guitar lessons have also begun, bringing music into our learning spaces, and our recent pyjama day was a fun and relaxed way to build school spirit and connection.

A reminder that the Department of Education’s consultation process is currently open. Parents and carers are encouraged to provide their input — please see the information below for how to take part.

Thank you for your continued support.

Zone Cross Country 2025: Event Recap

After several rain delays, the Zone Cross Country finally went ahead on May 30—third time lucky! Kambora students represented the school with great effort and determination, showing excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. A big thank you to the parent helpers who supported the team and helped make the day run smoothly. Special mention to Felix who came 6th and will be representing the Zone at the regional cross country.

Showcase of Performing Arts (SOPA)

On June 12, students from Years 3–6 attended SOPA (Showcase of Performing Arts), presented by Davidson High School at Glen Street Theatre. They had a wonderful time watching the incredible performances and witnessing the amazing talents of their local high school peers. It was an inspiring experience that celebrated creativity, confidence, and community through the performing arts.

Wheelchair Sport NSW

On May 30, students participated in the Wheelchair Sports School Experience—an engaging and interactive session designed to promote inclusion and awareness. The program included a 20-minute presentation on disability awareness, followed by a high-energy game of wheelchair basketball. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about accessibility and have fun while trying something new.

National Simultaneous Storytime 2025

All Kambora students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime on May 21 in the library, enjoying the book Truck Cat. They had a wonderful time, joining more than two million students online across the country to share this reading experience together. A big thank you to Mrs Allman for facilitating this engaging and enjoyable event.

Pyjama Day

On May 26, Kambora students participated in Pyjama Day to raise funds for the Pyjama Foundation. They came dressed in their snuggly best and enjoyed hot chocolates with marshmallows from the canteen as part of the day’s activities. Many thanks to Liz for facilitating these and making the day extra special for everyone.

Oscar Strikes Success at State Bowling Tournament

Kambora Public School is beaming with pride after School Captain Oscar represented the school in the state Ten-Pin Bowling tournament held last Tuesday and Wednesday (4–5 June) through the NSW School Sport Unit.

Supported by team manager Mr McSeveny, Oscar delivered an outstanding performance alongside his teammates, showcasing skill, sportsmanship, and determination. Together, the team bowled over the competition in what was a thrilling two-day event.

Congratulations to Oscar on representing the school with such distinction!

Congratulations Lachlan - Australian My Country Competition Prize Winner

Kambora Public School is pleased to share that Year 5 student Lachlan has been recognised as a winner in the Australia My Country (AMC) Competition, coordinated by the Forestville RSL sub-Branch.

The competition invites students from Years 3 to 6 across local primary schools to explore Australia’s military heritage through written or artistic entries. This year’s themes were “Commemorating 110 years of Anzac – an enduring legend” and “August 1945 – Victory in the Pacific and Returning Home from War.”

Extra Curricular Opportunities

Art Enrichment

After a term full of 3D projects, students kicked off the Term 2 Art Enrichment program exploring the world of Abstract Art.

Vibrant, ribbon-like compositions that practically dance across the page were created. Inspired by contemporary Californian artist Amber Vittoria, known for her bold use of color and fluid forms, students crafted double-sided colored paper strips transformed into mesmerising zigzag patterns.

The project challenged our young artists to think about composition, colour relationships, positive and negative space as they arranged their colorful ribbons. Come and view these pieces and more where they are on display in the main hallway next to our art room.

The abstract nature of this project allowed students to experiment freely with color combinations while still working within a structured technique.

It reinforced fine motor skills through careful tracing, cutting lines, colouring, cutting, folding and gluing, while simultaneously introducing our abstract art theme in an accessible, playful format. The finished artworks are bursting with vibrant hues against neutral backgrounds, and I’m sure you will agree, bring a welcome splash of color to our entry hallway.
