The upcoming Open Government Partnership Global Summit is happening at a defining moment for societies across the globe. Democratic foundations are being challenged in an unprecedented way and governments are faced with complex competing priorities, many of them asking for innovative approaches and collaboration. The open government community has pioneered solutions for stronger democracy and better government for almost 15 years. At this moment in time, reformers must move beyond the basic ask for more openness. What is needed are bold, inclusive, and politically smart reforms, anchored in solidarity across borders and sectors. This defining moment asks for agency and action. Only then can we deliver on the promise of open, resilient, prosperous societies that work for all.
Chaired by Spain, together with Cielo Magno serving as Civil Society Co-Chair, the Summit prioritizes three pillars: People, placing citizens, rights, and civic space at the center; Institutions, strengthening transparency, accountability, and integrity; and Technology & Open Data, leveraging digital tools to enhance services, innovation, and governance.
Discussions will address emerging priorities such as the Open State, Public Participation, Digital Governance, Integrity & Anti-Corruption, Civic Space, and Access to Justice, with a focus on one guiding principle: openness must yield better government and deeper fairness, not just optics.
Ambitious reforms will be showcased through the Open Gov Challenge Awards, recognizing initiatives in anti-corruption, fiscal openness, media freedom, justice, climate action, and other priority areas. This moment calls for bold, united action to defend democracy, expand civic space, and strengthen global solidarity. Participants will not only share ideas but also co-design forward-looking, inclusive reforms to deliver a more just, resilient, and prosperous future.
