Head's Welcome
Dear Families,
This week, we were delighted to welcome our second cohort of prospective Year 7 students for 2026. It is always a proud moment for me to see our current students in action during these visits. They truly embodied our Canbury values, showing our visitors what it means to be a supportive and inclusive community. Seeing them welcome new faces with such kindness is a testament to the special environment we have here.
Earlier in the week our Level 1 Functional Skills students sat one of their first public exams this week, a huge "well done" goes out to them. We know that exams can be a daunting experience, but our students handled the challenge with maturity and focus. We are keeping everything crossed for their results and are immensely proud of their hard work.
Finally, we ended the week on a high note by welcoming Baroness Garden of Frognal to the school today. It was a privilege to give her a tour of our site. She was incredibly complimentary of the work we are doing here and, more importantly, of the students she met.
Our students had the unique opportunity to speak with her and learn firsthand about the inner workings of the House of Lords. It isn’t every day we have a member of Parliament in our corridors, and the students' questions were insightful and engaging.
You can find more details and photos of the Baroness’s visit further down in this newsletter.
I wish you all a restful and happy weekend. Mrs Rich

Reenie held our first Canbury Belonging Session this week - thank you to Brooke, Alice, Ella, Issy, Ms Boggi, Miss Kay, Mr Shuttleworth and Mrs Milestone for taking part.
Below is our word cloud on what TV, film, reading and creative writing means to us.
Baroness Visit
We had a very exciting visitor for assembly on Friday - Baroness Garden of Frognal, Susan Elizabeth Garden. It was a privilege to welcome the baroness to Canbury School and the students were all extremely interested to meet her, asking brilliant questions and being thoroughly engaged throughout. We heard about her work throughout her career and her position as a Baroness. She spoke to us during assembly and then held two smaller Q&A sessions with the school council, Head Students, House Captains, House Vice Captains and a few others who were keen to join. Please do ask your children what they learnt and what they thought of her visit. Thank you so much to the Baroness for visiting us - we hope you enjoyed your time with us.
Canbury Stags Football
The Canbury Stags had their first game of the season this week against local rivals St Philips. It was a physical affair with both teams winning, but in contrasting circumstances. The As took a 4-1 lead but let St Philips back into the match, narrowly holding on to win 4-3. The Bs were 2-1 down at half-time but then turned it around to win 5-3. Special shout outs to Alfie for a fine performance in goal, and Seb for making his Stags' debut.
Science Under the Microscope: Year 10 Textile Artists
Our Year 10 Art students have been trading their sketchbooks for sewing needles this week! Inspired by the organic, biological works of textile artist Bev Hisey, the class has been busy recreating the microscopic world of human cells through fabric. The students are exploring how the "building blocks of life" can be transformed into tactile art. We are incredibly impressed by their focus and the delicate textures they are creating!
Pizza Party
Johnson House celebrated this week with their Pizza Party for the most house points achieved during the Autumn term - congratulations! There was a bit of a delay with it arriving, so thank you to Mr Fairbrass for driving us to collect it. The delay also meant we only managed one photo!
Brindled beauty moth
In the rain of Tuesday, Max spotted this beautiful female brindled beauty moth in the playground.
Comic Strip
We love this fantastic comic strip that Nina Y8 has created this week!
