On Friday September 8, 2023, the Collie Club of America Western Herding Regionals began in Olympia Washington. It was a three-day event judged by Rochelle Stanford-Dias and Linda Bell. There were two trials on Friday and one trial each day on Saturday and Sunday.
On Friday, the Regionals offered two course D all-breed trials with collie preference to help with expenses. This was the second year in doing so. At both the morning and afternoon trials, there were eight competitors: four Smooth Collies, one Australian Shepherd, one Briard, one Border Collie and one Samoyed. Six entries were in Started and the Border Collie and the Samoyed were in Advanced. High in Trial was earned by "Asia" CH Borealis Heat Of The Moment RA HSAs OA AXJ XF ACT1 TKN. The Briard took Reserve High in Trial.
On Friday afternoon, High in Trial went to Smooth Collie, "Asia" CH Borealis Heat Of The Moment RA HSAs OA AXJ XF ACT1 TKN and "Mircea" Borealis Trouble And Desire RN HSAds HSBd NA NAJ OF ACT1 TKN was Reserve High In Trial from Started. These eight-year-old littermates are both bred, owned and handled by Jeanine Blaner.
On Saturday and Sunday, the trials were back to Collies only. There were 32 collies in the three non-competitive tests: Instinct (23 entries), Herding (two entries) and Pre-Trial (seven entries). There were 17 competing in the competitive courses which included courses A and B and Sheep and Ducks. High In Trial Ducks was "Mircea" Borealis Trouble And Desire RN HSAds HSBd NA NAJ OF ACT1 TKN and Reserve High In Trial Ducks was the smooth bitch, "Elsa" GCH PACH Sinkona's Dream Catcher CDX BN GN GO RE HSAd HSAsM MXP6 MXPS MJP7 MJPS PAX MFP T2BP CA BCAT CGC bred, owned and handled by Linda Ward.
On Sunday, there were 30 collies in the three non-competitive tests: Instinct (23 entries), Herding (one entry) and Pre-Trial (six entries). There were 16 competing in the competitive courses which included courses A and B, Sheep and Ducks. High In Trial Sheep was "Mircea" Borealis Trouble And Desire RN HSAds HSBd NA NAJ OF ACT1 TKN and Reserve High In Trial Sheep was the smooth dog, "Torrey" Moonstone's I'll Pine For You TD HSAds HSDs HIAs bred by Louise Torkelson, owned and handled by Suzanne Schwab.
