Miró Quartet's "Rendezvous with Benny" Celebrates Artistic Legacy and Collaboration

A "Rendezvous with Benny” is an extension of the Miró Quartet's Archive Project and celebrates the artistry of Benny Goodman centered particularly on the relationship between Benny and the Budapest Quartet. Benny and the Budapest recorded the Mozart quintet in the '50s. The Miró is joined by clarinetist David Shifrin for the entirety of the program which includes the piece that inspired the name, “Rendezvous” by Alan Shulman.

The Miró Quartet is one of America’s most celebrated and dedicated string quartets, having been labeled by The New Yorker as “furiously committed” and noted by the Cleveland Plain Dealer for its “exceptional tonal focus and interpretive intensity.” For over twenty-five years the Quartet has performed throughout the world on the most prestigious concert stages, earning accolades from critics and audiences alike. Based in Austin, TX, and thriving on the area’s storied music scene, the Miró takes pride in finding new ways to communicate with audiences of all backgrounds while cultivating the longstanding tradition of chamber music.

Winner of both the Avery Fisher Career Grant (1987) and the Avery Fisher Prize (2000), David Shifrin is in constant demand as an orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber music collaborator. Mr. Shifrin has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia and Minnesota Orchestras and the Dallas, Seattle, Houston, Milwaukee, Detroit, Fort Worth, Hawaii and Phoenix Symphonies, among many others in the United States, as well as with orchestras in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan. He has also received critical acclaim as a recitalist, appearing at such venues as Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie's Hall's Zankel Hall and the 92nd Street Y in New York City, as well as the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
