The Missouri Valley Conference competed in the second week of the 2024-25 swimming and diving season. The Valley had seven men’s and women’s programs in meets last week. Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Missouri State, UNI, and Southern Illinois competed for the women while Evansville, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, and Valparaiso competed for the men.
The Valley will have three women's teams competing this upcoming week with UIC beginning its season. The men's teams will have four teams competing with three of them starting their seasons.
Senior Brunno Suzuki won three events in Missouri State's season-opener against Southern Illinois at Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in Carbondale. Suzuki started the two-day meet by defending his conference title in the 500-yard freestyle with a win (4:36.75). He kept his freestyle dominance going with a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:45.34). Suzuki ended his meet by pulling off the hat trick with a win in the 400-yard individual medley (4:02.42).
Chloe Farro was a part of three pool records set by the Indiana State swimming and diving team at the Illinois State Dual Meet as the senior anchored the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay, as well as topped the record in the 100-yard Freestyle. Farro went undefeated on the day setting a new pool mark in the 100 Free in 50.88 to surpass the previous record set back in 2004. Her time of 23.63 in the 50-yard Freestyle win was .02 off the facility record set back in 1997. Overall, the Sycamores won 13 of the 16 events in the dual meet victory.
Another stellar performance saw Maddie Rollett qualify for the NCAA Diving Zones with her score in the 1-meter dive. Facing Centre College, Rollett recorded a score of 273.45 in the 1-meter to qualify for the zones. She followed that up with a 252.90 in the 3-meter dive. For the second weekend in a row, Rollett swept the victories in both dives.
Freshman Gonzolo Ruiz ran the table in the backstroke events in Missouri State's season-opener against Southern Illinois at Dr. Edward J Shea Natatorium in Carbondale. Ruiz won the 200-yard backstroke (1:47.61) to secure the first Bears win by a newcomer in 2024. Ruiz completed the backstroke sweep with a win the 100 back (50.33). Ruiz also finished third in the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.44) and was the lead swimmer in Missouri State's win in the 400-yard medley relay (3:18.47).
Maria Saldana Riebeling made her Sycamore debut in the Illinois State Dual Meet and capped off her first collegiate meet with a pair of second-place finishes in the 1000-yard and 500-yard Freestyle events. Riebeling opened the day with a time of 10:33.93 in the 1000-yard event to finish behind Claire Parsons as Indiana State swept the top three spots in the field. She followed up finishing in 5:07.25 in the 500-yard Freestyle finishing behind Parsons again in another Sycamore sweep.
