Karma's Art Portfolio 2024 By: danica k. white

'There Is Hope 988'

I made this poster for the 988-suicide prevention hotline. The reason I added all the things I did is; I used dark colors to go with the dark themes, the raven symbolizes death, the notes are meant to represent a suicide note, The forest inside the noose symbolizes hope, and the phone is the call for help. I made this project rooted in the experiences I have seen and the people I lost to suicide.

'I Love More.'

This piece is inspired by Tim Marrs and his work. This art has the big parts of my life that I love in it as the focal point such as my cat, partner, and myself. Everything surrounding them are symbols of love. To me this piece is important as it took me a long time to allow myself to love and an even longer amount of time to love myself. The symbols of love are the roses, hearts, swans, and dove.

'Cease Fire'

This is by far my favorite project due to its relevance and the symbolizations. This piece is inspired by Shepard fairy and his work, The theme is Questioning Repent. I got the word repent the day prior to this project due to a teacher of mine saying "Repent and pray." this made me question the true intention of those who use faith to harm others. This piece is made for Palestine and all who passed in the bombings, this piece is made to call a cease fire so no more women and children will die. I used Baker-Miller Pink as then you stare at it for 10 minutes it will calm you but after you will begin to get angry and anxious. The reason I used a native woman is due to this war reminding me of Manifest Destiny which is when American colonists believed that they had a right to all of the land west because God said so. So, in their journey to take what is now America they slaughtered the native people and forced them to move into small plots of land instead of their cultural lands. Now Israel is bombing the innocent people forcing them into small areas and they will take the once holy land of Gaza. They will take innocent women and children's life with no sign of a cease fire.

'Coffee Cup'

This was a typography project I used lyrics from one of my favorite songs and hand drew the scenery. The song I used was "Sweet" By Hozier, as it's a cute song that always calms me. I used a coffee cup and a sunset scenery in the back. The cup was difficult to draw but drawing on computer was a new and wonderful experience I would do again. The background is based off of my own home.

"I Voted"

This project struggled to catch my interest. I made a sticker for El Paso County Voters, the faces are meant to symbolize division, and the purple is blue and red mixed together a bond almost. But this project I was not very invested in.

'freaky'

My last project was a 60's psychedelic poster for a concert theme. This one I added all of my favorite artists into a dream fest made for me which is why I inserted myself in the poster because this festival was made for me. The artists listed are, "Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Stick Figures, Melanie Martinez, Foo Fighters, DJO, Mitski, Ayesha Erotica, Highly Suspect." I added the sun because I saw it in a lot of reference photos and I thought it was cute, the colors behind the sun are my favorite colors. And me being pink is due to that being my absolute favorite color.
